I'm currently beginning to build a racecar with an 88 coupe, and will eventually be modifying the structure to meet my needs better. While I was at the Fiero Factory swap meet I saw several stripped cars that I took pictures of to help get a better idea of the chassis structure layout. Below are miscellaneous pictures taken of any "sectioned" cars I could find, or just parts of the car that were exposed that are normally hard to see. Some of the pics aren't the best angles, but were of particular interest to me for one reason or another, and may be to you too. Here's what I've got, in no particular order:

Front lower frame rail section

Front upper frame rail section

Fuel filler area

Fuel filler area looking towards front

Passenger door area

Driver door area

Rear corner sectioned view

Rear corner overall view

Rear frame rail side view

Rear lower frame rail sectioned close up

Rear lower frame rail section

Overall view of rear end

View of right side components and chassis

Rear upper frame rail section

Rear frame rail and trunk rail section

I sure hope I typed those all up right. I hope this helps some of you!

Oh, here's a picture I took of the '88 front suspension and modified to see the layout a little easier. It was in a pile of cross members and was hard to decipher, so I just touched it up some.

Sniff, it breaks my heart to see those near mint chassis's cut up....

We fix way worse than that around here....

But, in fairness, if that's where the money is, chop away.

I'm sure you've seen some pics from the Fiero Factory...they're not exactly short any Fieros! It is surprising how many chassis they've got laying around there that they'd probably sell for next to nothing, while some of the northern cars are falling apart and people are still fixing them up. I've learned the hard way just to pay a little extra and buy a good chassis rather than doing a little work on the chassis, as a "little work" always becomes three times as much work as you thought it would be and you never really know if you got it all!

The Fiero Factory has these parts lying around? I could use a pair of uncrashed '88 Xmembers. How much do they want for them?

Thanks Bryce,

Most of it I am looking at right now on the Lab Rat, but the first pic, and the 88 front suspension pic, will come in handy.

I couldn't agree with you more Bryce.

Me personally, I have replaced 2 of my Fiero's chassis with rust free southern ones.

I lucked out and picked up a mint chassied 88 T-Top in floria when I was wanting to do something with one of mine.

The biggest problem I have with convincing customers in going this route, is the cost and hassle factor of getting a nice chassis here in Eastern canada, from somewhere down south.

I picked up my 88 T-Top at a steal, 300 US, but it cost me almost 3000 dollars to get it home.

Most people I tell that to think I am crazy, me I think I still got away cheap in the end, and I wouldn't hesitate on doing it again.

I always thought that if I had money enough to buy a big flat deck truck, and make trips south for nice Fiero frames, I could make a killing.

Will, they have several 88 front suspensions laying around out there. Of course most of them need a little attention (for example, one in pic needs rebuilt and needs spindles), but that's no biggie. I have no idea what they cost, give them a call and I bet they'll tell you.

Perk, glad I could be of service. I took the pics because I need them to help think about what to do with the racecar, and even though the car is stripped down, it's about 800 miles away. I got a lot of pics of it, but I don't have any with doors off or sectioned views, so this definitely helps. I figure there will be a point where somebody on the forum will need the pics just like I did.

Seanpaul, you can bolt anything to any other thing, just may be more work than you want to do. I've heard of a few people who have put an 88 front suspension into an early chassis, but it took a lot of work. As jelly and myself have said, you're better off just buying the car you want rather than spending a bunch of time and money trying to rebuild your car to that setup. If you're just bored and need something to do, go for it!
