I have a friend with a 86 se v6 auto with a knock at high rev but seems to be quiet at idle and idles well. I think the qil pressure sender is incorrect because the oil pressure seems to be low and does not fluctuate with engine rpm's. I think he has a weak lifter, nay thoughts?

This is where sound bites would be great! It's hard to describe a sound to someone and get a good diagnosis, tapping, knocking, clicking, etc.

Mine had a knock when reved and under load. Tore it down after checking out the top end and found a bad rod bearing. Car was running great other than the annoying knock on acceleration or when revving, might have ran that way for a good while but would rather not be in the middle of BFE when the rod decided it's ready to let go.
Mine was only really loud under load, when sitting still and revved it would be a faint knocking that would fade as the rpm's dropped.
I was having title issues with the car so opted to take what I wanted and part the rest out, if the car had been titled correctly I would have gone ahead and had the bottom end rebuilt. If you can do most of the labor yourself the cost is not that bad (bearings and machine work).
Good luck and maybe it will turn out to be nothing more than a stuck lifter!

Try holding the idle at about 2000 rpm on a warm engine. Quickly "goose" it a bit a see if it makes a loud clacking noise until you quickly bring the idle back to about 2000. It sounds like to me that you may have a bad rod bearing, but, of course I can't hear the noise. Good luck.

It seems somewhat interresting that so many people experience similar problems. if it weren't for this motors profile I might just think it was a rod bearing. this Motor/Car has les than 60,000 on it and looks to be in good shape. I have always associated rod bearing nose with a knock (hollow deep pitch) with a nose that appears at idle and disappears with load. whis noise appears beyond 2500 and gets louder with increased RPM. it also has a tinny (SP) sound that sounds like it is coming from the front bank maybe 1&2 cylenders. This engine sounds great at idle.

Description sounds like the experience I had, took the whole topend apart looking for valvetrain problem, it ended up being a rod bearing (very obvious, once the topend was off I could turn the piston with the bad bearing to top and lightly push down with my finger and it would drop a fraction of a fraction of a centimeter, pulled the block and removed the pan, the bearing was bad, I had pics somewhere). Sounded great at idle and just a little throttle but as the RPM's went up the noise appeared. The noise was also evident when under ANY load. Word to describe noise, maybe "clacking".
Any way to post a sound bite? Use a tape recorder and then run to line in on the sound card to transfer to digital, then upload to a place accessable to us or e-mail to some of the guys to get an opinion. Just a thought.
