Hello... I have a V8 Fiero with a 400 small block chevy. Currently running with a 5 speed isusu built 5 speed. I have broken 2 of these transmissions so far, they seem to last about a year of hard driving. Currently my third one is holding out pretty good (I aviod slicks and burnouts now!) Anyway.. if this one breaks I'm thinking about going with a cadillac 4 speed automatic like the t440. Anybody know if they hold up well under power? Any recomendations?

P.S. check out my site... www.kewlgeeks.com/Ray/

Look into a 4t65ehd. There are companys that build them to handle 500hp/500lb/ft. the grand prix guys would know where to look. I have a 4t60e behind an Lt1 with a small N2O shot. Ill let you know how it holds in the months to follow.

Hmm, send a pm to Darth Fiero. He's the computer guru. He might have some insite for you. They do make a hydroulic 4t60. But if you can make a 65ehd work, it would be worth it. It can be made significanlty stronger than the 60.

TCI makes a controller for 4L60E and 4L80E trannies. I'm not sure if it would work on the Caddy trans, and they are EXPENSIVE, like $750-800.

Try looking into the 4T80e, it's the FWD tranny used against the Northstar and should be able to get performance parts.

Is there any way you could make a manual shifter for an electronic tranny?

I've pondered that same question for a while. Since the shifting is done via electronic solinoids, you could conceivalby construct a series of electonic push-buttons to select the forward gears. I'm just shooting from the hip on this one, as I've not done much technical research on it. But hey, with knowledge, time, and money, anyting is possable.

I'm told by my transmission builder..........NO........it is also considered a very "finiky" trans, meaning the fluid has to be consistantly changed & clean cause they dont tolerate ANY debris, it make for sticky valves.
