Ok My 86 SE V6 has been sitting in my garage and hasn't been started since the end of December. It was sitting because I needed to bleed the clutch and it finely got worm yesterday so i bleed the clutch and go to start it and at first it will only run for a few seconds at a time. Thinking it might just be cold we keep trying. Finally we got it to run with it full throttle but it would only run at about 800 rpm and very very rough. And then after about 2 mins of letting it run at 800 rpms at WOT only the firewall exhaust manifold was hot the trunk side i could put my hand on it and it wasn't even warm. Then all of a sudden the car will start to rev up but will not rev past about 3000 rpm. but if i let off the gas all the way it will have to be held at WOT for at least 30-45 seconds before it will start to rev again. does any one know what could be the problem? I was looking forward to driving my baby for the first time in a few months.

Thanks B.J.

i dont actually know what i'm talking about, but i seem to recall hearing that 1/2 of the cylinders run off 1 part of the coil pack, and the other part of the coil runs the other 3 cylinders. i'd suspect that your coil pack is tired.

There are two injector fuses. One for each bank.
In addition to that, one of those fuses (I believe it's the one for the trunk-side injectors) is also the supply for the EGR solenoid. If the EGR solenoid shorts out, it can kill that bank of injectors.

Yep, sounds like the trunk side injector bank isn't getting power alright. Start with replacing the fuses (don't bother with a visual inspection, they frequently fail by cracking and the crack is invisible). If that doesn't get it then you'll need a meter to check for power at the injectors (they get power all the time when the key is in RUN) and to see if the ECM is completing the injector circuit by providing ground. There is solder joint in the injector harness where the three wires from each injector are tied to the single wire going back to the ECM and back to the fuse panel, that has been known to fail before.

To clarify the fuse idea, these are *fusible links*, not standard fuses like you'd find in the fuse box. You would need to crimp the new ones onto the wires.

A friend of mine discovered that one bank of injectors wasn't firing because a fusible link was burned out. Another friend discovered that the clips that hold the wiring onto the injector was broken on more than one injector, causing intermittent firing.

I went to go change the fuse but I couldn't find it. I looked in my repair manual (i think Chilton) to find out what slot it is because i can't read my fuse box very well and it looks like I have the old style fuse box. Where one of the Injector fuses should be (first slot in the second row) there is a 20 amp fuse instead of a 5 like the book said. And i couldn't find the v6 injector slots in the book for the older fuse box any one know what slots they are?

I pulled the code 23 from the ECM also. And my repair manual doesn't list that ether any one know what code 23 is?

Thanks bj
