I just got my new clutch line in the mail and I hoping for some advice or a "how to" before I start the replacement.

Thanks

I considered changing mine out until I saw that it has to go through a hole filled with two rubber spacers in the front compartmnent. It looked like one of those situations where it's best to have prior knowledge. Otherwise it's easy. Unbolt a few clamps on the water pipe and a few brackets and it falls off. In my case, the problem wasn't in the clutch line but the new master and slave cylinder from the Fiero store. BTW, I got excellent service, ordered Monday afternoon, arrived Wednesday morning. I wasn't bleeding properly and thought that only thing left to replace was the clutch line. Fastfiero gave me some good hints on bleeding the new stuff correctly. Thanks, loyd. I now can shift into first with the motor running at a light.

Get some advice about getting through the front compartment, the rest is easy.

Robert

Looking into the front compartment, it would seem like I need to remove the plastic “dust shield” sitting under the spare tire. Does that sound right? Is it hard to remove?

That plastic spare tire well is a bit of work to remove but you're clutch line replacement is going to need it removed.

I tried to take a clutch line out without removing the spare tire well. Found out the hard way that the clutch line cannot be removed without taking it out and that the spare tire well comes out really easily. Get out your 7mm socket, a 10 mm socket an extension and a good tool for removing gm plastic rivits. Dont forget to remove 1 screw from each of the rubber fresh air feed tubes. You can wiggle the whole thing out without removing anything but the jack holder assembly and maybe the driver side sunroof holder tab. From there, chaning the clutch line is pretty easy. Not that that is the problem, but its good to know.

Thanks for the replys everyone.

The little plastic tabs that seem to hold in most of the spare tire well, is there a mothod for pushing those out with out breaking them?
