I need to get a vehicle inspected. 84SE. When I depress the horn button, all I hear is the relay clicking in the convience center under the dash on the passenger side. Neither horn makes a sound. That tells me everything inside the column is ok. The connectors are plugged in on both horns. Any ideas, other than 2 bad horns or a bad ground up front? The large ground cable up front is in place, and the rad cooling fan motor and headlight motors both work, which all use the same ground cable as the horns I believe. Fuse is good, as the overhead lights use the same fuse, and they work.

Either the horns are both bad or the connections at the horns need cleaned. I have seen both scenarios with my Fieros, Having both horns bad isn't too uncommon. Check the power lead at each horn with a test light while someone presses the horn button for you.

oh yeah, you may be able to adjust the horns and get them to work. There is an adjusting screw and lock nut on the side of the horn. Check the resistance of the horn itself. If it's -0- then the horn is bad.

Don,
If you think the horn is bad, take a 12v wire from a good known sorce(batt) and touch the horn lead. if it honks =horn works and it is in the wireing
if No honky = bad horn.

If it is in the wiring, just use a toggle switch( (or momentery switch) in the interior from the horn and hook it directly to the horn and a 12v refrence. so the horn will honk when the switch is used.

That will get you past the inspection for the time being, then later you can trace the horn wires at your lesure.

Fixed! Even tho the relay clicked, the contact was dirty. What a dinky little setup. It does come apart easily, but I stole the one from Jane's 84. As fast as she drives, it's too late by the time she honks anyway. I replace it later. Thanks
