Anyone else getting sick of real actual true technical posts getting lost to page 5 because of posts about bolt sizes and "why doesnt my car work" posts?
Seriously now, with 9000+ members 2 usable sections is kinda bunk. Anyone seen anything go through the "auction" lately? no. so rip it out and make it a Hardcore tech section and make this the "ratchet-challenged" section.
Or is everyone supposed to head to www.60degreev6.com and post there...which allready happens alot...

If people would learn to name the post with the problem instead of "Help my car is broken" it would be easier to fined a post. I don’t think it would a bad idea but it would help if people would take more time to type out their posts. Most of the time it’s because of frustration that posts are written in haste. I still enjoy reading through the posts and try to help where I can. I don’t feel I am "ratchet-challenged" but everyone has to ask for help at one point or another. Now does anyone know what thread size the air temp sensor is?
This request is similar to one last month, regarding a separate suspension section. Same answers apply I guess. One of the things that has happened, is the evolving of the Fiero. Swaps have become very popular in the last few years, and I suspect they will become more so as more and more info and parts become readily available.
I can understand your frustration Donk, tho I personally will never swap anything into either of my 84s. The popularity of the digital camera has resulted in a big change. Instead of folks just answering individual questions, they are doing really good write-ups, complete with pictures. To lose these is aggravating. When you find a thread that interests you, bookmark it, so you can come back to it, but once they become archived, the url changes, and bookmarks are invalid I believe. Still, it can be always be found thru the search function.

Sorry guys, I'm the ratchet challenged type and I'm guilty of posting stuff about "why doesn't my car work" lol. I'm just trying to learn though... and I'll be more specific in my thread titles.

doublec4 - i dont think anyone is pointing fingers or the like, it just would be easier for the truly technical questions to be answered if the 'other' stuff was seperated. I think more than ONE moderator is a good idea also, it would spread the work load around, because no doubt folks will post in the wrong section and would have to be moved.
maryjane - lots of good write ups have been here which should have been made "sticky" or put into a FAQ or something! The search function boggles the mind as you search for one thing and it gives you another.

I'm "ratchet challenged" but then when I describe exactly (to the minute detail) of what my problem is.......people just kinda look at the screen, then at the keyboard, then hit the back button get away from my topic On another note, I like it to be general like this because I'm lazy and I wouldn't want to go to every single stinking one of the different categories to find out things. This way you get everybody in here at once and they can throw in their input while if it was divided, they probably wouldn't want to go to the other topics. But that's just me....

I'm guilty of the "MY car's broke posts" . I also agree we need to break this section into further sections ala (suspension, engine, transmission, exhaust). however I must also point out that this post is off topcpic for the tech section, since we're chatting general in here.

So the question arises... what good would it do to break it down much further if folks will not post in the correct forum anyway? IMO, it would only add more areas for folks to have to surf thru to find stuff.

I think that one thing Cliff should consider is adding "labels" to the individual threads, like in the mall section. You know how some threads have a green or orange 'for sale' or 'want to buy' banner if you put "FS:" or "WTB: in the subject line?Tech should have the same thing, but obviously with different categories (suspension, engine, etc. or repairs, upgrades, maintenace, etc).

I don't mind either way. I like the forum as is though. One thing I'll ask, what is so hard about the search???? When there is a post I'm looking for, I usually find it on the first page of the results, with always less than 10 others. When I'm looking for info in general, while I may get 90 or so search results, more than likely they are along the lines of what I'm searching for, or have my topic mentioned in them.. Hmm.. maybe i just understand the 'key words' idea.. Like say I want to find the aluminum heads post I was just in with Donk, my search will be "Jncomutt aluminum heads Donk316". Or when I was searching for the thread about my CRX post, simply "Jncomutt CRX intake import 300zx"

I found that if you put other words in the post that you can remember, even if it doesn't match the 'subject' that you are searching for, it narrows it down. Like in our heads post you may want to put 'rating bar' in the search along with other things, or "cold start injector' or exhaust, plenum, etc like that. Words that you KNOW were mentioned in that post. It also helps if you remember a users name who posted in that. these are just some tips that help me find stuff quickly.
They don't neccesarily describe the 'aluminum head' info you were searching for. But they're words I was easily able to remember that were in that post, and so they help me find it quickly.
