The fiero gremlins have really got their teeth into me at the moment!!!Just got home from work(3.45am), and the ignition light came on...checked the alternator, and found it hanging from the top bolt, flapping about in the wind!! The lower adjusting bracket has snapped...it is too dark to see now, but wonder if it will be possible to fabricate a new one, or do I need to buy a new one? fierofetish
I had mine break just the other day when i was trying to change the alt. I have a 86 with the 2.8. I ordered a used one from the Fiero Factory, around $65.
That looks like one! Be sure to get Rodney Dickman's neat little reinforcement plate to help strengthen the end of the bracket where the adjustment bolt goes.

Ditto on the Rodney Dickman reinforcement plate......my alternator bracket is good but as a preventative measure i purchased the plate (heard of many broken brackets here) and just installed it.. a perfect fit and a must have.

It is not that hard. Remove the dogbone bracket that goes over the valve cover, three bolts, then remove the three bolts that hold the bracket to the motor. It may help to disconnect the twin vacuum line connector from the EGR solenoid, unbolt and unplug the solenoid, and flip it up out of the way.

Hi Electrathon!!Find out the price to Spain and let me know!! I won't hold you to your first price if it is a lot more!! Nick
I guessed at the weight and did a postage calculator thing. It looks like about $25 shipping parcel post. That would make it $55 shipped. Not sure what that is in your dollars. If I am wrong I'll cover the differance.
Thanks Jazzman for the directions...got it out in 22 minutes. Now I can see why the bracket broke:This is the mounting hole on the alternator...kinda worn through!! And the top bolt is frozen in the bracket, so had to snap it off to separate the two.No wonder the belt used to squeal!!I am going to make a new bracket, and see if I can find an alternator at the wreckers yard, until the new bracket arrives. Thanks for the help!! fierofetish Edit: this is obviously why the temperature kept going up. Although the belt felt tight when I checked it, the play in the mountings obviously allowed slippage when running. The wear in the top mounting obviously caused the adjustor support to fatigue and eventually snap
