Here are some pics to add to my 3.4L pushrod Swap (lots of pics) thread. Full swap info can be found there. I am doing an auto swap for a club member and took some pics of the starter relocation and block chop. The block chop has to be done on the auto as to clear the transmission. The block is choped on the original starter side. I also got pics of this starter relocation. Also on the 85, 86 Fieros you use the Fiero oil pan instead of the 3.4 one.
But first the engine. A 3.4L V6 out of a 93 Camaro. Allready cleaned and painted.
A good way to mark the starter hole is to put some paint on the tip of the starter bolt. When you have it all lined up(see other post) stick in the starter bolt, twist it a little, and it will leave a mark.
Then I used a hand punch to set a starting place to drill in the center of the mark.
I took the pan off for more room and taped a bag around it to keep the shavings out.
You need a 88 Fiero flexplate too. If you have an 88 then you are set, if not you can get one at Partsamerica.com Motormite 04307 $42.99.
There is a adapter for the oil sender if you have A/C. You can get one at Pep Boys, MotorMite# 43228, it is labeled 5/16" to 1/4".
The block chop has to be done on the auto as to clear the transmission. The block is choped on the original starter side. If you look at the 2.8L you can see how much and where to chop. I used a square to measure the 2.8 and compare while I was grinding it down. Here are some pics.
You can tell it is the same engine stand that I used on my blue one, from the blue on the stand.
Thats all of the pics I have for now. I hope this helps, haveing pics to see always helped me.
very nice, would u be able to do me a big favor, i need a picture of the side of the block in the area of the oil filter/ A/C compressor, and starter. dead on perpendicular to teh block. can u do that for me. pleeeeeeeeeeaaaase...
thanks ~Mark

So you are using the 3.4 heads? Just take all the 3.4 intake stuff off and replace with Fiero intake?
3.4 and 2.8 heads are the same. All you do is take all the Fiero intake stuff, exhaust stuff, coolant stuff, wiring stuff, and oil pan and stick it on the 3.4 Block and Heads. The only 3.4 stuff you use is the 3.4 Block, Heads (unless you have some ported ones or something you want to use), and internals and oil pump.

You must also replace the timing cover with the 2.8 cover. Common mistake. Some people leave the original 3.4 timing cover one and don't realize that is is and "inverted" design to the 2.8 cover.

Thanks Todd + too you! I noticed that the newer 3.4"s had aluminum heads? Does the Fiero stuff bolt on to these or is it a good idea to stay with the iron head 3.4?

Newer ones are the 3400, not the 3.4. To make the Fiero stuff match up, you need to use the iron head 3.4 from the F-Bodies. The 3400 is a whole different beast.
