This is the thread about the building of the car he brought bagk from that trip.
This is Ales' Silver Coupe, All we are doing is putting a new crate LT1 engine into it.
I've spoken at length with Ales & I can tell you that he has some very unique plans for this car when he gets it back & you're going to love it when he's done.
Here are some pictures as we got started on the car. Removing everything we can from the top before getting it up in the air & removing stuff underneath......
He had already removed the transmission to use as a spare if he needed it back home. So the engine appears a bit cockeyed.
The car was rolled around loading it & unloading it without axles shafts in it & that causes the rear bearings to come apart & the wheel can fall of while rolling it. Ales says the bearings were worn out anyway, so no harm done as they had to be replaced anyway. But use caution will cause damage when the wheel comes off.

When we took the engine out of the car, we took the suspension & engine wire harness out with it.
The harness comes all the way out from inside the car.
After removing 4he engine from 4he cradle, we bolted the V-8 kit parts ep to th% engine!& fitted it to 4he crad,e.
Notice that%the intake manifold, va,ve covers and h%aders abe not o. the engine. Al%s is hafing the intake weversed$& the iotake & valve cogers are$being powder coated. The headerw are being cera-ic coated.

You are correct my friend, thats a Flowmaster 80 Series installed on the stock v6 engine, no need to cut the flowmaster at all or the trunk to fit in the stock location, the sound that this muffler produces its amazing, its sounds like you have a very strong v8 engine installed in there, there is no better sound than a flowmaster 80 Series for a v6 engine.
BTW the part number of this muffler its: 43083

Edited for spelling ...

How far are you from cozumel? My friends will be down there at the end of the month. I'd love to go down there one of these days for a dive trip. I decided not to go with my friends and use the money for my V8 swap. Now its 13degrees outside and I'd rather be in mexico.
To be honest with you, im about in the middle of the country, and cozumel its too far for me, its located at the lowest part of the country Im located like 30 hours away (driving) from Cozumel , but if you ever come to Guadalajara you will have a place to stay in my house, and a Fiero to drive too ...

We put the intake, valve covers, headers & all new handbrake cables front to rear & new rear hub bearings, got the A/C lines mounted up to the engine. We ended the day on time & we're almost ready to sit it on the floor already.

Taking pics of an old exhaust isn't really a high priority with me. The fact that it's stuck back in a corner of the shop doesn't help either. But I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.
I'll need your email addy to send them to because I'm not posting them here.
Ales: it is looking good. got the cooling system & most of the wiring done today, the goal is to fire it up tomorrow. give me a call tomorrow if you can I got a couple of questions for you.
Forgot to bring the camera home tonight so no pics today.

KissMySS - Just got back from Mexico. Mid 80's, white sandy beaches, warm ocean water, girls in bikinis, girls without bikinis, all inclusive resorts, margaritas on the beach, deep sea fishing, diving, kayaking, ohhh sorry, I didn't mean to add to your pain!!!
Ales - Looks like you are going to have one awesome set up there. Congratulations and keep us posted on the progress.
Well we've been working on it full time for the last 2 days.
Got the wiring all done, the cooling system all hooked up, exhaust system is all built & installed Using a set of the Flowmaster Hushpuppies that Ales specified. (sounds SWEET, trust me.)
I have a slight issue with the Chip in the ECM. The engine runs fine but today we were not able to read the scanned. That's why you try to get the car done before the customer gets here. Mark, the owner of, Street & Performance was off today taking his wife home after knee surgery. After calling his shop, no one there had the authority to overnight me a new chip. So I called Mark on his Cell Phone, he then called his shop & they are overnighting a new chip to arrive tomorrow AM.
We did drive the car up & down the drive today but didn't want to take it out on the road without ability to monitor the scanner.
Still haven't been able to find the correct paint for the injector covers. Here are some pictures in process.

1. Wow what a huge alt bracket! what is the reason behind it? and not a smaller one?
I can put in a whimper alt. bracket that will do the job for a few months or I can put in a more substancial one that will last forever.

2. I thought the intake(air filter) was not good sucking up the hot engine air as opposed to the fresh air outside the car?
Just wondering....
I'm glad you asked that question.
When you have a 6 banger, you need all the power you can squeeze out of it. You need to consider what weight of oil you have in it, what kinda spark plugs maximize what you have to work with & you need to plumb over to get just the right air into it so you can get a couple extra horses whereever you gotta go to get it. Whenever you're putting a SBC like this into a Fiero, you got more power than you can imagine. 5 or 10 HP either way is just not noticeable. The engine compartment on a SBC Fiero is a lot cooler than it is on a supercharged or Turbo'ed V-6. In fact I'll bet it's even cooler than a stock 2.8 Fiero. You already know that the superchargers & Turbos add lots of heat to the engine compartment. With the SBC, we route the exhaust down & away from the engine compartment. You asking your question would be like me asking why the heck would someone put the power from a big mighty V-6 thru a single exhaust system & ,when heat is supposed to be bad, why would they route the exhaust from one side of the engine thru a crossover pipe over the top of the transmission thru another manifold then into a cat converter mounted right where it's heat is blown right into the engine compartment. Then the exhaust system finally goes under the engine into a muffler that also is mounted in the engine compartment & then finally out the back of the car. I wonder how much all that heat raises the oil temp in the engine, especially with the stovepipe from the cat convertor running right underneath the oil pan. etc. etc.........
If a customer of mine wants to route the cooler air from the grill in the left 1/4 panel, he can plumb the air intake over there pretty easily. The hole in that side vent is something less than 3" in Diameter. While that 3" diameter can flow enough air to feed any V-6, I have doubts if it will feed a 5.7 Liter engine at full song.
Any more questions?
Archie

Actually I fully understand NOW. you do bring up a good point about the single routeing of the V6 exhaust. I find it interesting that no one ( that I know of) has dualed out say a 3800sc . I won't bore ya with V6 questions though. thanks!

Ales: Check your EMail
The chip didn't come in today. Thay are having a problem with the chip burner & it turned out another chip just like the one I have yesterday. Hopefully they did get a chip out to me today, I'll call them to find out in the morning. The engine runs great, we just can't get a scan off of it.
Did drive the car on the road today, engine runs great, more details in the EMail.
I'll get some pics from all angles tomorrow.
BTW, your shifter had a lot of slop in it & I have a bunch of 4 speed shifters, so we put a new one in today.

I'm confused here. Are you telling me that the bracket that you shipped me in your kit will last a few months?? Please explain. Thanks.
You're not running an LT1. On your swap & all "Normal" SBC's the Alt. mounts to the back side of the alt. bracket & it'll last virtually forever.
On an LT1 The Alt. mounts to the front of the alt. bracket and I add a second Alt bracket to stabilize the Alt. so it don't viberate.
I don't really care if someone thinks the Alt. bracket is too big, it does the job it has to do, there is enough room in that area for the alt. bracket & you can hardly see it when it's all in the car.
