I don't know the condition of most of these expansion tanks, all I know the one out of my 87GT is toast. So I decided to make one. I made it out of .040" (1mm) material and folded the sides to make the tank. Here's the new tank next to the old one.

Notice the rust and holes in the original tank. One of the previous owners screwed something to the wall where the battery used to be and drilled three holes right thru the exp tank.

Two steel lines are welded in, one at the bottom for fuel return and one at the top for fuel expansioin.

This pic shows the bottom tube welded close to the corner which is the lowest point.

This pic shows the tank in place with tabs welded on for securing the tank. (Not painted yet)

I have about $20 invested including the brake line to make the return lines. I don't know if these tanks are still available and their costs, but I'm lucky to be able to fabricate just about anything I set my mind to. Hope this can help you make your own.

Excellent job. I was just looking at the one in my Formula and it is bad (I think it can be saved) but your has it beat by a long ways. Good photos.

Looks nice.

If the expansion tank looked that bad you might want to drop the main tank for inspection. You may not have holes but there may be places that are really thin that could become holes soon.

Thx for the compliments guys.
Ogre - Yeah you're right about the tank being in rough shape. Although it was not that bad, I already did the tank early in the resto project. The car is slowly being restored within my ability from the ground up. Here's a pic of the finished tank complete with a new pump.

Nice work. Did you ever see the enlagred tank that was made in Canada by C3K( long gone) ? Also there was a guy that made the dimensions of the stock tank bigger by eliminating the wide lip - the new tank just expanded the dimensions so that the tank went to the end of the lip (did I say that correctly ?). Anyway, they supposedly also added 6" to the length and the new tank held over 15 gallons !

Check this out (go near the bottom 1/2 of the page):

I'd forget about the saddle tanks and just make the center tank without the protrusions. If you make these, I'm betting a LOT of fiero owners would be beating a path to your door .....
