I did some brain storming and came up with this idea. I got a 85 GT with a 88 cradle and going to put a 4T60 in it. So instead of cutting up the cradle and moving the holes towards the center , why not move the mount to the outside. This is a plate I designed to mount on the transmission to move the mount towards the out side. Do you think it will work? If not why? The plate will be 3/16 thick, thicker, thinner or about right?

I'm not sure about the fiero cradle but I did something similar on one of my older Buick T-Types. I replaced the 2004R with a Turbo 350 and had to fabricate a "extension" mount from the tail of the trans to the crossmember about the length of the overdrive unit on the 2004R.

Again, Not sure about doing it on the Fiero but I would at least use 5/16" plate instead of 3/8". (5/16 may be a bit overkill but I was'nt happy with the 1/4" mount I made first.)

I would say, if you have the clearance, you could be in luck.

Well I finished today and took some pictures.

I had to grind a little off the factory bracket to miss the bolt head

Here is what it looks like with the factory bracket attached to the adapter.

And this is it with the mount, factory bracket and adapter.

So what do you think? Will it work? Think it will put an odd load on the transmission case and break it?
Didn't turn out to bad considering I only a hack saw and a grinder, plus drill, bits and tap

I don't see why it shouldn't work. The distance seems minimal to cause any leverage issues. But you need to send me the exact dimensions of your plate for me to tell you

Alex: For starters I had to get two new brackets from GM. Front bracket part # 14077768 it's a dead ringer. The rear part # 14055407, these are very cheap $5-8 each I think. The offset is 1 3/8" on my adapter plate. You will also have to get a bracket that goes from the transmission to the block that bolts by the passenger side axle shaft. I couldn't get one new so had to go to the local salvage yard and get one off a 2.8/3.1 that had a 4t60. Also my trans was a 91, so my rebuilder had to swap the guts and top for the speedometer. I read threw the write ups in the cave and found a dipstick to use, it had good measurements to go by, don't know how it will work with focoa headers yet. Hope this helps
