well, i have still been thinking about how i can make my monster ass subs fit in my fiero, i am a little over 6ft so i figure behind the seat is out, under the front would neat, but a ton of work. So what about in the "trunk"? the mounting depth is like 9", so theres not a whole lot of options. the subs need like 1.5 cu. ft. each, so that makes it even harder. but I REALLY want these in my car, not only are they 1600 watt 1 ohm 10"s but they are black and blue (as is the rest of the car) so they would flow nicely with my "theme".
my idea was to just take the carpet out of the rear, seal a piece of 1" MDF back there, and re-caroet it. but i need a way to get the sound to the cab... SO, i was thinking since the 3 cu ft. is for a ported box, i could run some tubing of some sort into the cab, like the thread a while back that did it (but they where in the front). i mean i spent a ton of money on the subs and ended up not putting them in my neon (cause i LOVE them and didnt wanna sell them with the car) so they are and have been in my basement sense i bought them. i only hooked them up once for like 30 seconds, to an amp rated for HALF of what im gonna push them at, in a ported enclosure, not even in a car (just sitting on top of the person trunk, and they shoock the hell out of the **** in the persons house, so i think they would be INSANE in a fiero if i could figure out a way to do it. the guy a Auto Toyz told me i am crazy for wanting that much bass in that small of an area, he usally installs them in "boats", caddys, crown Vics, mini trucks...
so what do you think> seal them up in the rear and run some ports into the cabin... WOULD IT WORK???

If you look, there's actually not very much behind the dashboard. I've always thought that it would be a good idea to mount a sub up underneath the dash somewhere, perhaps partly sticking into the front compartment. I'm guessing it would be easier to do without A/C.

You will end up with a small diameter long port. After all that work, you will probably NOT be happy with the results. If you have to get them outside the passenger compartment, I'd go with 1 sub up front and port that into the car. The ports will larger and shorter.
Here's another option

well, how much room is there when you "cut out the fire wall section" like a few others have done?
i took of the magnet cover (shouldnt hurt anything right?) and got the mountng depth down to 5.5", and if i keep the box(s) sealed i will only need 1 cu ft per sub. so if i cut out the firewall piece and then i should be able to make a 1 ft box behind each seat without losing too much leg room right?
I KNOW everyone thinks i should get different subs, but these subs along with the Orion 1200D are just going to POUND the **** out of anything NEAR me... (im not totaly retarded, i dont crank them up while in the car, well not too much but me and a few of my friends have these stupid little competitions to see who can rattle what of their car/ inside the house etc...) plus the one "friend" is a spoile little rich kid who always spends like $1500+ on subs and **** , as aposed to my $500 or less, and i ALWAYS beat him.this month alone he has already gone through 2 12" infinity Kappa Perfects and 2 Eclipse SW9122 TITANIUMs which he paid like $1200 for and then found them NEW on ebay WITH WARRANTY for $300 each.

You will be very hard pressed to get 1cu ft of volume (don't forget to subtract sub volume from enclosure). I have my boxes as shallow as possible, while making them as wide and tall as possible and only got about .75cu ft in a sealed box. The box has polyfill inside to cut the internal resonance and create very tight accurate bass reproduction.
I'm running a little underpowered at 100 REAL watts to each sub (subs rated at 200 watts), but they have a high db efficiency, so it works OK. I may not get 160db in volume but the sound is clear all the way up, with only a bit of clipping at full volume on very heavy BASS CD tracks. That's when I cut back on volume to avoid burning the voice coils. Underpowering your subs will always do more damage than having more than they're rated at, so depending on your subs specs, you'll also need a bigass amp. Where do you plan to put that?
the amp isnt that big... it puts out a steady 1200W rms to each sub at 1 ohm. its small enough i should be able to find somewhere to put it... prolly under the front hood with some fans or somethin. or maybe even raise the passenger seat up an inch or two and put it under there...
Dimensions: 18.7 L x 10.5 W x 2.3 H
also... your website says fieros have a "double firewall", is that only the bottom section? ro it is "double" the whole way up? (theory: cut another hole toward the top for more room)

I have seen some AWESOME results with my friends setup in the front. The AC was removed, so it made it possible, but if I was to do it, I would put one sub up front, ported to the pass seat. I have some pictures in my swap thread
I second the12volt.com site, really nice info and quite accurate.
II got really disturbed when I saw those long ports, as that will TOTALLY change the pitch of the sound coming out of the end. The idea of ports it to lower the pitch of the sound slightly, by having a short large diameter port, with the correct dimentions to tune your desired sound. I dont have the equation off hand, but you would be looking at like some 3k hrz resonance coming out of that long port. If you saw the pictures in my my swap thread, you might notice that those are very large subs for the boxes they are in, and they also have completly untuned port sizes, along with different box sizes for each sub (did I mention that the boxes were really really small? LIke barely big enough to hold the subs). But my point is I guess, that job was done very un scientificly, and I liked it, but just imagine the results when a system can be developed to create proper sound mechanics.
I honestly think that the only way you can get 1, or maybe 2 of those subs any where near your fiero is with the front compartment, I will bet that you will be very happy with the results. I do agree that it is quite alot of work, but my friend did his in about an afternoon.
I really want to suggest putting just one of those giant things in that fiero, as thats basicly my plan if I ever decided to ADD 100+ lbs to my racecar.

I got done, this past winter, with my sub boxes behind the seat. I was going to build a box for the trunk, but figured I couldn't hear them that well. I was going to do the front trunk thing to, but not enough room. I even have the A/C out. The subs I have are 12" Kicker CompVR. Yes, I had to cut out the firewall part like other members have. The boxes I made were made to go from a few inches from the floorboards all the way up to the top of the firewall. Approximate dimensions are 28 inches high, about 18 inches wide, and about 4" deep. You can see how when you cut out the firewall it is square in shape. I made a particle board frame (stuff you make the speaker boxes with), screwed it down to the firewall. In the back of the speakerbox, I cut a square hole to fit the firewall hole exactly, and then screwed the speakerbox to that frame. I figured out the speaker boxes with the firewall part to be about .9 cubic feet of airspace each. The subs require 1.0. If you want to get the extra space, you can make your boxes higher. Another idea is to make a "U" shaped box and use the area above the PCM compartment as a connecting area. If you want to weld, there is room in the engine compartment to make a box for extra airspace. The hard part about the whole thing is in that firewall area, especially on the driver side is to get the thing airtight. I used that sprayfoam ... "Great Stuff" to try and seal most of it. The area is still not airtight. I am a huge stickler on sound, and think the sound they put out is good. I noticed the sound difference between sealed boxes, ported boxes (i don't like), my prototype boxes, and then the final product. The final product isn't as good as an airtight box, but it is really close in my opinion, and sounds good. Just a note. I went through a few prototype boxes before I got everything down, to get the speakers to fit without hitting anything. I lost about 3" of leg room on the driver side. I am only 5'6", so I have to move the seat up a notch anyhow. I still didn't like loosing those couple inches. I got used to it though, and now I can't tell.
For the amps, I just took out the spare tire and mounted them on the wall it sits on. Drilled a hole by the foot area where the passenger's feet are.
