Is there a non-oiled filter that will fit a West Coast Fiero style "fender well" intake? The second-hand filter I got with mine looks pretty questionable, and oiled filters don't block much dust anyway. I think the filter is about 5" long with a 3.5" inlet. Thanks

oiled filters block dust really well, its actually the design of them. They trap dust and stuff inside the cotton like filler material, then the dust acts like a filter itself.

Cleaning and oiling is a little bit of a pain, but the preformance offered by them is noticable.

Sorry, but you're wrong. They do work via that principle, but they still pass WAY more dirt than anything else: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/070249.html

As far as performance from the intake, there is almost no gain to be had in a Fiero via reduced filter restriction due to restrictions in the aluminum intake pleneum, etc. There are threads out there explaining this as well. And for what that performance is worth, I'd rather have my engine last a lot longer and gain performance elsewhere. Heck, changing the oil brings more power back than a K&N did, and changing out the ancient clogged spark plugs would probably be even more than changing the oil. And if you want to talk about real performance, wipe the PCV sludge out of the throttle body and butterfly

Try Amsoil - they now make a non oiled "100,000 mile" filter that replaces all those oiled K & N types. Ed

I just ordered a dry-flow AEM filter from summit. Haven't seen it yet or heard any unbiased information.

I thought this was an interesting read on various filters. It's was a test on the Duramax engine/filters but it continues to support what many have claimed over the years about the differing filter quality. Obviously at some point you just need a bigger filter period.

According to the graphs they show, these filters have a much better filtering efficiency than either cellulose or oiled filters, while still providing nearly the air flow of a poorly-filtering oiled media! Also see the cost-efficiency table at the bottom of the official webpage and take into account the cost of K&N cleaner and oil kits. I'm convinced. Now I need to find some prices.

Their website lets you search for OEM replacement filters, but I couldn't find a way to reference the universal cone filters, such as the ones used to replace K&N's. I finally ran across another message board where a guy was advertising the filters at dealer cost through him. He provided the following part reference table (reformatted by me for ease of reading). I emailed him to see if he's still providing this service. We'll see if he answers

Edit: Prices added to table. They are Amsoil's official retail from their website, so you may find them much cheaper elsewhere. The "code" UBB tag only seems to be working one out of several tries. What's with it?
