A friend of mine use to have a chassis dyno, sure wish he still had it, and one of his customers was Jacobs Electronics. They are (or were before they were bought by I think Mr. Gasket) based in Midland Tx which is only about a 2 hour drive from here. They would bring cars up here and rent his dyno for the day to test ignition parts on new cars and would occasionally give him some of the parts they were playing with that day. One thing they gave him was a Jacobs Ultra Coil. He was already running one on his drag bug but figured a spare was not a bad thing to have. He sold his bug back a couple of years ago and was cleaning around the shop today and found his extra coil. He gave it to me to try on the Fiero.

As I am running an MSD Digital 6+ box it looks to be a straight forward hook up. Anyone ever used one of these?

Dang, does my breath stink or something? It can't be that dead around here.

Comments, opinions? waste of my time to install it? "Jacobs sucks"? "That coil's da'bomb"? Anybody?

Maybe you have a story about getting shocked by one of these and now your sterile.

Jacobs used to make good stuff. Since you're using an MSD box I don't imagine it will help you much but why not hook it up & give it a try. Let us know results.

I would have kill for Jacobs wires. They were the best out there. Until like you said Mr Gasket bought them. Now they are the exact same crap as Accel wires. I mean, Accel is better than stock but nothing close to the old Jacobs.
I would use an MSD coil with the MSD Digital but you can try that one. If it works it will definitely be good. I say this because I tried an Accel coil with my HyFire ignition and it didn't work. It was somehow paired to the HyFire coil.

There is a guy selling Jacob s 8.5mm Energy Core wire by the foot on Ebay. I might have to buy some. Wouldn't be hard to make your own if you have some decent crimpers. I have the MSD crimper and it works great.

My friend who had the Dyno was telling me that the Jacobs Techs that used to come up from midland really like using an MSD box with their coils. Be interesting to try but I think I'll wait until after I get my fuel injectors replaced. I have one leaking and it's really screwing with the way my car is running so It's parked until next week when the injectors arrive and I can get them flow tested.
