Grab a 4 speed muncie out of a Fiero, the 5 speed is prefered , check Rodneys site for compatibility www.rodneydickman.com are you checking the mall section here on the forum, post a wtb ad, I can`t remember what your doing to the car, not sure if this helped any or not, just going on whats posted. This may help too. http://car-part.com/

what i want to do is replace my tranny...id prefer installing a 5spd rather than a 4spd....which would be better...i love to roast the tires an hotrod lol...most of my car is all modified to do so but the tranny...which is garbage...where i live you see fieros rarely..well i do anyways so getting my hands on another fiero tranny let alone one that works is slim to none..so i need to kno what is a suitable replacement..and i have no way to go long distance to pick up a tranny so the mall is out of the question

You need a list of fwd getrags that will fit your Fiero, then the conversion kit from Rodney to change it over, have you tried the local salvage yards for a later model getrag?

i dont think rodney has anything for FWD getrags over 1990 or so. this 2001 tranny will bolt up to your engine, but you need custom linkages, and mounts (not to dificult if you have some skill with fabrication work).

1986 Silver 5 speed Fiero 3.4 DOHC
Bored .30, Fully balanced and blueprinted
13* retard exhaust cam, FFP UDP, much more.
13.93@101mph as it is on the street

355/380hp sbc, 4 bolt main
spec stage 3, and many other extras.
87 GT 5-speed Getrag, power everything.

Anyone know what the transmission in that ebay auction is? It has the FWD bolt pattern but doesn't look like a 282 or Isuzu.

Tiger auto salvage has 2 fieros out back, 84/85's unknown trans.

Flint auto salvage had a 4speed a few weeks ago, doubt its there anymore.

Check with renos, or maybe even genesee. The phonebook is your friend.

Did you try to ask the salvage yard for a swap--instead of a refund--they don`t like to give $$$ back--but they will swap for something else they have or can locate, even if its for a little more $$$ it would save a heck of alot of work tearing apart 2 transmissions....

ok my original trans idc whats wrong....it is a pita to get into the gears and when you put it in reverse it pops out of reverse and into 1st and when in first it pops into 3rd and when in second pops into 4th and also when 4th pops into neutral so prev owner had to hold shifter constantly into gear.............

The salvage yard should be refunding your money. Most yards that I deal with will not refund you cash if you asked for a certain part, but they will if the part they supplied is not what you asked for. You have them a certain application and they supplied a trans that they said would fit, but since the part they supplied will not work the responsibility is theirs to correct.....either by supplying you with a proper transmission or refunding your money.

Try that first.

Yes, they will, but you'll have the shortest first gear ever, I had a 4cyl 4speed with my first 86gt V6, and I had to shift almost as I was taking off.
That is because they came with a 4:10 gear ratio (it helped the duke get off the line, but your V6 got better low-end). There is another 4speed available from the 4cyl cars (is extremelly rear and I believe that only some 84 4cyl cars had it) it has a very low 4th gear (you can do like 70mph at 1500rpms or something like that) good for high way gas miles
