While at Pep Boys this afternoon, I looked at some billet fuel doors. I'd like to put one on the car (87 GT) but the ones I saw were all flat while the GT fender had a slight curve to it. Also, the Fiero door is 6" OD (incl the surround) and the ones I saw were at leat 6 1/2".

Has anyone done a fuel door modification and if so, what did you do it with? Post pix if you have'em.

Thanks!

I find it hard to believe that NONE of you guys have done this mod yet but, OK.....I'll get on the research and get back to you.

Hit this link. The size is just about right and it comes in different finishes though the F-150 one is just about at the "too small" limit. Having said that, the smaller one appeals to me. I've seen the ones that look like hubcaps on the sides of cars and to me subtle is better.

Would be nice to get a look at the back to see if the latching mechanism could be adapted. I'm not interested in a locking cap. Just another lock to freeze in the winter. Which type are you looking at?

With the price of gas these days, a locking cap might not be a bad investment! I've been thinking of making a list of parts that I'd like to find replacement mods for, I'll have to keep a ruler and a caliper in the car with me then go measuring things at local dealerships...

I'm leaning towards the PT Cruiser one but will have to get my hands on one for measurements before I commit to it. The funny things my research has reveeled that there aren't a hell of a lot of "off the shelf" billet doors available that would not prove too big for the Fiero. \

I'm not ready to have one machined (mad cash) but will if that's my last resort.

Not billot, but is aluminium. Made this with a stock gas door, 1/16 polished alumium, and square recessed screws etc. I still have the door I had painted with with the car and may go back to that all black one, undecided, kind like of the wing, no-wing look on a GT, cab drive you nuts.
