I got everything I need to repair this leak including a new egr valve with base gasket, heat coated adapter block and adapter to crossover gasket. I know it's there now because I can hear the exhaust leak but I have another question. How come I haven't got any trouble codes like 32 from the ecm yet? Will this only happen if the solenoid is shot?

where would the air be coming from? if its E from EGR - its hot exhaust. does it burn your hand? I dont think the EGR solenoid is a pump, so I dont think it could "blow air"
does it feel like its blowing towards the EGR or away from the EGR?
does you Fiero have the ducts for the coil fan & alt fan?

you would get a code 32 if the vacuum line to the EGR valve was cracked or if the diaphram was leaking vacuum. the computer is happy as long as it "thinks" the valve is working.

It feels like it's coming somewhere around the adaptor block. The nuts were tight so maybe it's cracked or the gasket is worn? It's very hot air coming from the area....not alot but it can be defiantly felt where my hand is in pic above. I have an 88 so no ducts for coil fan/alt fan. Are you saying this release of hot air is normal?

get about 2 or 3 feet of 1/8 or 3/16 vacuum hose stick one end in your ear and "search" around with the other end close to where you think the leak is. it will get very loud when you find it.

well, if it hot - good chance it be exhaust. it should also have some sound to it - very slight VW Bug/Lawnmower like sound. so, this would also imply there will be soot/blackness around the actual leak. yes, could be a failed gasket - but I'd more inclined to beleive cracked weld. if you have a mirror on a stick, use it to view the welds all around the EGR, then the gasket area. look for a small black dot, or a small black line. It might be eaiser just to remove the whole Y-pipe. gives ya LOTS of room & view angles. and, of course - if it needs welding - makes that easier too.
anyways - my '85 has 2 ducts & a fan, which blow air on the coil & on the alternator.

How about NO gasket Obviously someone did some work to the EGR system and never replaced the gasket in between the Y-pipe and the adaptor! Problem solved Thanks for the help!
