Buddy Craigg made a video of himself taking apart a Gen 1 headlight motor and putting it back together. Its in a 7 part series on youtube. He really explains what he is doing as he is going along. Give him some +'s!
I bit the bullet last night and went ahead and rebuild my left motor that just stripped on the other night. Lucky the one from the car I'm stripping was a good motor and had never been apart. The green junk was completely gone.
As I mentioned before, I still like to put some bumpers in the gear to allow some "give" to let the motor startup. A motor does not have maximum torque until it is near to it's running speed. This one I am trying pieces of rubber fuel line between the gear web and the metal plate. Installed them with the tubing hole facing the web. Sized them to have about 1/8" or less total play.
So far sounds and works great.
Which motor shafts are you wanting?

it's funny, but ly41181 has been contacted about selling DVDs already. i told him to go for it. i know most of the in's and out's of the first gen systems, but i dont really want to make money off of them.
so ly41181 should be selling the DVD for pretty cheap
and if i ever decide to buy a bigger memory card for my camera i might redo it so it's a better quality.
PS... i've still got the digital tape. what does ly41181 need to put it in his computer without it going to a VHS tape first?. i could send him my camera, but i'd be screwed without it.

But he's missing the safety glasses, safety goggles over the glasses and finally a face shield! You never know a headlight motor could EXPLODE at any moment! :-)
Then you have people like me that attempt to sandblast a part with none of the above, just turn your head and close the eyes. and say over and over "OW! OW! OW! OW!"

LOOOL!!!! I started sandblasting that way.. squinting and taking the pain. Then the rest of the day getting sand bits out of the corner of my eyes.
I ended up getting a faceshield, 10 replacement visors, gloves and earmuffs..oh and an old jean jacket from 5 years ago and it was quite comfortable after that
