Hello! I'm trying to get my front springs in. The thing is they're so long. My spring comprssors just want to gouge my newly powedercoated springs, and also don't compress them properly. How are they normally installed? Do I just have to by a better spring compressor? I had the idea of using the upper perch as an anchor (w/ added weight to the car) and pressing upwards with a jack. This seems dangerous, though.

I tried the search function but to no avail. What have you done to install them?

Any help w/ this install is greatly appreciated!

-Michael

Does anyone else think these springs are unreasonably long? Couldn't they have just make higher rate shorter springs? That would probably make an easier installation job.

They could (and do) make shorter, higher rate springs. They're called lowering springs. Spring design is a compromise between vehicle weight and ride quality. The factory springs give a much softer ride than most lowering springs, so the car would wind up unreasonably stiff if they make the springs long enough to maintain stock ride height, but short enough for easy installation.

Oh, yeah, that makes sense. I'm sure I'll get them in fine, but it's taking more time and effort than I expected. If I thought of this difficulty before I may have bought the lowering springs. But I've got a steep driveway and my town has a speed-bump fetish, as well as unrepaired potholes.

In the end, my shop press worked wonders. Compressed my springs in my press, then wrapped them in vinyl-coated cable, similar to what someone else did. Then I brought them to the car and the fit in. I connected the knuckle in then took the cables out. They came out just fine w/o much pinching. I'll detail later w/ pics. Toodles.
