Been tinkering around in the engine bay and found this quite a few days ago. Its zip tied to the side of the bay.

One of the tubes coming off of it has a screw at the end of the tube, as if to block off something.

Any help would be great as to what I need to do about this.

if I am not mistaken on what I am looking it, it looks like the EGR solenoid, to control when the EGR opens by computer command instead of just off of ported vacuum. My camaro has one too, and it's engine is from 1987. Though the camaro's looks different, I am pretty sure that is what your Fiero has right there. Mine on my fiero still has the bracket that bolts it to the decklid hinge.

Hmm. Okay. Why would one of the tubes be cut and plugged with a screw though?

I could swear I'm getting some nasty fuel mileage. I haven't really checked it, just seems that way. Might this be the problem?

Looks like someone relocated the EGR solenoid and blocked it off for some reason. It normally sits under the water neck.

Oops. you guys beat me to it.

someone probably thought that disabling the EGR would give them performance gains (which it does not, just increases cylinder temps), so thats why its blocked off. and no, this would not be your problem, since all EGR does, is throw already burnt air and fuel into the combustion chamber again, making the available oxygen less, with the same amount of fuel, to force the car to run rich without increasing fuel pulse widths.
