My 3800sc swap is getting very hot in the engine compartment, so I experimented with a spare decklid using some Transam vents I bought years ago, what do you think... took me about 2 hours to do and yes it somewhat looks like it, but will vent the heat out

I was also wondering if anyone had suggestions about a decent computer fan(s) to use to help suck the air out?

They won't let air out. But, they may let water in, and maybe a bit of air. The air flows forward on that section of the deck.

I don't think I'd use them. More trouble than they'd be worth.

I've used those on the hood though, and they do a good job for the radiator.

I installed one of these in my trunk to blow on my ignition coil and module:
http://www.pegasusautoracin...tails.asp?RecID=5752

I used the 3” diameter model but there is a 4” diameter model that moves more air as shown in the link.

You could use one or two of these connected to a baffle under each vent

Also, I used a “White Rodgers” water heater thermostat model 756-1 set to 150 degrees to turn it on and off. Model 756-2 is harder to get but can be set as high as 170 degress.

I looked long and hard at computer/electronics fans and found nothing suitable.

The air flows forward because of the vacuum and resulting turbulence created by the abrupt drop-off of the back window. If there was a vent there to supply air to that vacuum, it would.
Having said that, however, I think vents like that, in that location, would be ugly.

One of the issues I noticed lately is that the Trans AM GTA vents warp from engine heat, so I'm going to modify them in some way to address the issue:

There is a picture in his thread

Thanks for the responses, i'm going to put the experimental decklid on the car and get her nice and hot and see what happens, would look nicer with something like this:

I agree, but times are tough and might be ugly but functional! ( looks better than the over the roof scoops!)

Those Trans Am vents were installed in the decklid of the Bubbajoe/Fiero2M8 newest project and have started to flex/bend due to the exposure to heat... so I would not use them to vent hot air.

I used some 1"x1/8" aluminum stock and cut out a molded brace to run down the center underneath. I used it on the hood however, not over the engine.

The metal in those vents is white metal and not high quality. Warpage with heat in that location is not a surprise to me.

I think that would look good with a nice set of over the roof scoops.
