Hello all i've been doing some searching but not totally clear of the weld location. Is on the tube as it enters the flange and if so
one poster noted that you are to keep the heat on the flange. I wont be doing the welding so i will be relaying the info to a buddy
that will do the work. Any pics will help greatly.

Thanks

Yes, the flanges need to be welded to the pipe. Bolt the exhaust manifold to a used head before it's welded - it will warp if not. Let it cool completely before removing it from the head. You can build a fixture out of some thick plate to do the same thing. Keep the heat on the flange and "wash" the weld to the pipe. The pipe is thin and will burn through real easy. Best to TIG them but they can be done with a wire feed. The flanges are steel and the pipe is a mild stainless steel. I use soild 0.30 carbon wire with a gas shield. If you put too much heat into the pipe, it will "bubble" on the inside and you will have to grind this down the check it for pin holes. When you port the inside, take a exhasut gasket and port match to the gasket. I use a Cone Stone in the drill press and keep the transistion within the thickness of the flange.

Worth you time to port the Y pipe also. You have to cut it open and re-weld though.
You decide.
