Hey folks,

Need your help in noting the <correct> locations for the factory trunk release wiring. I have an 88 formula and the previous owner began to add the trunk release wiring, but never finished. Unfortunately, it appears he may have added it to the c500, and after looking at the c500 diagrams for the 88, it looks like the trunk wiring should not be run through the C500.. as it was an 85 thing?

Can someone name the factory locations for the trunk wiring, and where it should be run. I know there thould be the relay under the dash, but where (specifically) does the wiring for that relay then run to make it into the decklid. It appears in the 88, there is a C250. Does the trunk relay wiring run from the relay, through the center console, out through the bulkhead connector and to the main engine harness and to the C250? I'd like to properly add this, and have it routed like factory. Thanks

All the wiring should already be in place, in the car. (It was in my Formula and my 88 coupe, neither of which came with a trunk popper.)

There is a socket behind the right panel of the instrument pod that plugs into the switch.

There is another socket under the dash, where the relay plugs in. (An old horn relay will work.)
Should be inthe space to the right of the steering column, but may be taped up into the harness. (I have found it both ways.)

The decklid harness connector is on the inside (towards the cabin feed through) of the right hinge box.
The only wire that you should have to add is from the decklid harness connector back to the trunk latch, in the decklid. The wire is already in the "car side" of the connector.

All that you need to add are the switch, relay, latch solenoid (actually part of the latch) and that piece of wire in the decklid. Nothing else.

I believe that part of the wiring loops around through the C-500 in the automatic cars, as the relay gets its ground through the P/N switch (IIRC) and the starter solenoid.
I don't know what C250 is.

You answered your own question there Raydar... the decklid harness connector is C250. It also has three other wires for the deckild ajar lamp and the trunk light. To answer smartaxel's question about routing, yes... the blk/wht wire from the trunk release relay passes under the armrest, through the bulkhead through-way, and on to C250 as you had guessed.

Thanks to both of you! There is a chance the old wires(or some) were removed by the previous owner, as it had a motor conversion. When I re-did the motor harness, I didn't add the trunk wiring back, nor did I see it in the tunnel. I know the C250 (decklid connector) is no longer there at all, and will definitely have to be added. Thanks again for the responses!

DOH!

Jeez...
Why go to the trouble to rip all that out?
It's certainly not in the way.
Perhaps it was just taped back out of the way when the engine conversion was done, or something.

Unless I'm mistaken, the wiring would pretty much have to go through the passenger side feed-through, since it stays in place when the engine and its harness are dropped out.

AC stuff was removed also.. relays, tubes, condensor. I guess it was for weight savings. Now, the trunk wiring, I don't know why/if it was removed. On the C500, there was one wire with about 2 inches left, that had masking tape saying "trunk release". Lastnight, I read that should not be in the C500 on the 88 models, so I am fairly confused. I will check the passenger side bulkhead and see if it's in there, or taped somewhere. I have a feeling it was cut out though.

Edit: OK, the C250 is still there... My memory failed me on that.. it's there, cable tied in back. But, on the C500, there is a cut black wire/white tracer that is labeled "trunk release". bout 2 inches left. So, the next step will be figuring out what that actually is feeding...I wonder if an 85 c500 was used as a donor. I completely re-did the wire harness, but I left that wire there, since it was labeled. Perhaps it's going nowhere at this point.

Thanks again!
