Nope, not a direct fit... You will have to hack-up some/most of the venting under the dash to make them work... IMO, not worth it... Use some 5.25" speakers instead, like I did... There is a member on here who has a downloadable template for the 5.25" adapter plate...
Although 6x9's would give better sound and others have done it... Do a search and see whats invloved first...

There is not enough space under the dash to mount a 6X9 unless you do some remodling for the AC duct work. It can be done but I decided it was not worth it. I'll go with the 5.25 and a small tweeter set up up front.

I would suggest using Fierosound's adapter plate for 5.25" components. Or even cut the dash for 6.5" components. From everything I fond, they'll sound better than oval 6x9" speakers... If you need the bass, get a dedicated subwoofer...
All the above said, it has been done, but all my research has proved light on information on how 6x9" were fitted to the dash. If i find something I'll post it. (unfortunately the archive is hard to search, and using google to search it doesn't work well.)
lol cut the ac? i chopd my dash where the old speakers were and my 6x9 fit perfect lol eventhe covers stay on mount the 6x9 on a angle thats what i did

I would love to see pictures of this! I measured every which way from Sunday to see if they would fit AND not look all hacked, but could not come to a decent solution...

You know I'm looking at the picture of them in the link you gave and I just don't get it. How does the basket and magnet of a 6x9 fit through a 4x10 opening? Even looking at there little slide show of pictures they don't show a 6x9 in the adapter thingy. The only possible way I can figure is that the adapters are really thick and the angle of the picture just doesn't show it? I mean seriously, take a 6x9 and sit it in a 4x10 hole. It's going to stick up a inch or so unless it's a cheesy stock type 6x9.

Its like fitting a square block through a round hole; it aint easy, but it is possible with a bit of persuasion
People I have read who have fitted 6x9's usually do if from beneith the dash (lots-o-hacking)... I have a pr of those adapter plates (got them attached to 6x9's in a trade years ago) and yes, they are quite thick; maybe 2"-2.5"...
Thats reminds me, if anyone is looking for some MTX 6x9's w/ adapter plates, let me know... I belive the adapter plates work best when changing over rear package shelf speakers, not dash speakers...

I have Sony Xplode 6X9's in the dash of my Formula.
The speakers are mounted under the dash, using spacers about 3/4" thick to prevent the woofer cone from hitting the underside of the dash.
The passenger side defroster ductwork had to be slightly modified for magnet and basket clearance, the drivers side took extensive surgery to make everything fit and keep the functionality of the defrost and vent ductwork. The dash area under the speaker grill has also been cut away to open up the face of the speaker, although with the speaker grill in place, it appears stock.
Is the time involved in the modification worth the quality improvement of the sound?
In my estimation, yes. Although I would prefer to use Memphis Audio Power Reference speakers, the 6X9's have really good bottom end and sound much better than the 4X10 speakers. I also like it because it appears to be stock, and I don't have to loose interior room to a subwoofer.
