Putting together a new 2.8 I don't remember what the AC bracket it looks like...
Wasn't it some steal round bracket, not a aluminum one?

The 2.8 V6 has two compressor brackets. The top one is aluminum, and the bottom is steel. Here are some more photos, courtesy of Jazzman:

Talk about ill designed ! if you look at the to bolt at the front of the compressor it is a B*&^(CH to get loose on the car. It would be MUCH better to have one long bolt through the back all the way to the front. Has any one found ont that will fit??? I've been to the hordware store with no luck.

Slightly larger (diameter) bolt, drill out the mount ear on the compressor for the larger diameter bolt, Tap the mount bracket for the new larger diameter bolt, install - repeat process for the rear pivot bolt. Your idea of a longer bolt may work as well or better. You would need a sleeve to go between the front and rear mount to prevent crushing the two together. I did the above "tap" setup on my 88. Takes 5 minutes to remove the compressor.
