I'm working on an 84 and at a slow idle, the needle pegs against the volt meter. Any suggestion on problem?
Thanks

Bad tach filter maybe. Can try to bypass it, I have seen some say they have been running without it for years without problems.

I am pretty sure it is mounted on the front left corner of the valve cover. Should be a silver cylinder about 1/2" diameter 1" long.

I'll have to look for it. I kinda looked for one like the V-6s have. I thought the 84s tach filter was in the dash. It has been forever since I messed with 84s.

The tach filter on a Duke is sometimes taped to or wrapped IN the wiring harness.
It should still be on the harness below the thermostat housing near the distributor.
I'm sure my 84 Indy had it in that vicinity.

Item 12 - this diagram is from the 1986 Service Manual...

Thanks I found it in wiring where you described. I tried search like you suggested in another post. Me and greasemonkey were all I found. He was looking for replacement.
So it is okay to bypass it?

I think people have bypassed them. Might be worth doing as a test.
Replacements http://rodneydickman.com/ca...h=21&products_id=165

But your problem may be the tach itself https://www.fiero.nl/forum/A...010418-2-005884.html
