OK so this got archived before. I'd still like to find other documented parade lap Indys. There were questions I missed in the previous thread before it got archived: Johngee asked; I forgot to ask along with your vin what was the number assigned to your vehicle for the parade. Every little bit helps in trying to solve the mystery. It was #36. part of the sticker is still on the windshield & I have the original tag receipt from Indiana with tag # 36.
maryjane asked; If you don't mind me asking, what month was this car produced, and what Production # is it on the known vin list at http://www.fieropacecar.com ? I just checked for the month & some idiot has had an oil change sticker stuck over the VIN tag on the door at some point in time, & the residual glue makes it hard to read the data. I might try to remove the glue, but I'm a little afraid any solvent will remove the data. I might try it on another car first... Rick had my car listed & "parade car" as a notation, but he's completely re-done his site & I'm no longer registered to check it. Plus he doesn't like me since the BS with toddster on the floor mats, so he refuses to cooperate with me on any research. OH: hey I just checked my folder on the harddrive & I had it saved: It is #118
In addition I have: 1) The original invoice. Shows the "Total Cash Price" as $16,422.33. 2) Original Indiana motor vehicle certificate of registration, showing the "Plate Number" as "36" - same as the Flag Lot number. 3) Service procedures book. Very thick book. 4) Cardboard "Fire Warning" sign. :-) 5) "Important Maintenance Information" book. 6) The envelope & note from the Indy Speedway that the Flag Lot sticker came in. 7) Mcguard lug locks info paper. 8) Ohio inspection from 1/03/04
So anyway, I'd still like to find all of the other documented cars. I plan a complete restoration of this car at some point in time (although it's not in bad shape as it is). The previous thread turned up two that folks knew about, but no actual data from any owners. I know Fiero Thomas had one for sale recently (would love to have bought it, but no money), but he never mentioned any documentation. I'll post in that thread to see if they'll respond here. Thanks everyone. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"
P.S. I remembered to check the "email notification" button below. I wish Cliff would make that a default setting.
Ugh... I can't get it started right now. I am not getting fuel to the injector (key cranks it, no fuel jet) Tomorrow is more troubleshooting in the cold. Not sure what it is exactly, the list of suspects is getting shorter with Phonedawgz and Patrick's help. I think it might be the fuel pump, relay, wiring or injector. I spray a shot of starter fluid in there and it starts, but dies immediately. You can tell the engine wants to run, but it is being strangled out of juice immediately. Tomorrow I multi-meter from ECM plug to injector plug for continuity, then I am going to pull the fuel line and see if I can get any to come out when I turn the key on. If both of those are okay, then I have to suspect the injector.
However, I have been doing some other resto stuff on it.. just had Matt re-cover an auto shifter knob for me, thats new. I put on new battery cables and flex-braided a lot of exposed wires and re-ran them back to original routing. I detailed out the front compartment.. I am still not sure whats up with the radiator fan and that weird resistor on it. Does your indy have a big resistor on the fan wiring, or is mine a shade-tree special? Would you be willing to send me a few photos of various locations I am wanting it exactly original. (for now)
I'm gonna keep trying. Worse comes to worst, I will put in the SD4 and bug the heck out of Fierosound for install tips. I'm sure he'll love that. Of course, I'd need the $6k or so for the engine, so that might be a while off.
I still might be interested in those seat covers and door panels, I just need to get it rolling first. I am proving without a doubt I am no mechanic, but I am making progress. (You asked!) -t

Be glad to take photos of various details. Send me your email address & requests at ImThaDriver at yahoo. I have an original (I think - at least it came from the last Indy I sold) ECU if you need one. I can send it to you if you like. The guy that bought the car won't need it, as he's putting a different engine in it. Have you further researched the parade car aspect? EDIT: I wonder if you can call Indiana & see if they have records of the tags issued in '84? ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"

Good evening, I just lookied up the VIN to see that I have (#1220 - IG2AF37R9EP264944 Auto 204,000 Maryville TN) The speedo is working but the Odometer is not, so the exsact milage is unknown.
I traded fro her in Maryville TN on last New Year's Eve! I had Dean at WhoDeanie's look her over and she has been My dayly driver for the last few months!

Cool. Have you checked to see if it's a parade lap car? ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"
According to Rick Borecky owner of the Fiero Pace Car Records and fieropacecar.com I have car #113 of the 2001 made and #80 of #148 at the track vin 1G2AF37R7EP248676

Not that I doubt Rick's records, but do you have any other documentation? The type that an Indy race collector would want & allow him to pay more for the car?
I'm 99.999999% sure my car is NOT one... but I wanted to add that if you have the link to the old thread that is archived you could post it in this thread to help keep that thread alive sort of. At least the info that was posted....

I've seen one here in Edmond by the UCO campus. I left my email on the windshield and the kid replied. I got a jarbled VIN number, so it was hard to tell and he never replied back. Its been a couple years since I've seen the car also.
Yeah the plaque is pretty cool. What I'm looking for are the surviving members of the cars on the parade lap at the '84 Indy 500. The ones with "proof positive" that they were there. The type of proof that a collector would want. For instance, my car was tagged in Indiana in '84 with tag # 36 - same as the flag lot sticker that the raceway put on the windshield. I've heard of two others that someone said they spoke to the owners & they said they were documented, but I have never heard from any other owner with proof. Surely my car is not the only one left... ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"
According to Rick's "Fieropacecar" website he has 8 known parade cars noted on his list. I assume that these are noted after the owners paid him for the documentation. From what I've seen of his documentation, it is top notch indisputable proof, registrations matching VIN#s, Celeberty drivers etc. The exact kind of Proof that a collector would want. I Think the Info packages that he will sell you are well worth the expense, even for the non-parade cars.

While I don't doubt the accuracy of Rick's info, it's not backed by anything from the speedway. It was simply an individual that worked there that kept the records, & I'm not sure that qualifies as "indisputable proof". Although it would be well worth the money to know who drove & rode in the car. I can't get the info from Rick on my car, 'cause he doesn't like me after the "incident" with Toddster over the floor mats. https://www.fiero.nl/forum/A...090907-2-087545.html Moot point anyway 'cause I don't have the money to buy it from him (although I did offer to pitch in $100 to help him purchase the info when he was considering buying it). I don't know if my car is listed as a "known" parade car on his site or not. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"

As I said, I was told mine is one, but I never got the Information Packet yet. I think he's forgotten.
