Anyone know where to acquire some genuine information regarding the SD4 engine? Specifically, I was wondering what the redline is on that thing. I'm sure it's way more than 6k, being a racing engine and all.... but I was looking for a bit and couldn't find it anywhere.

I unfortunately don't remember where I got it otherwise I would provide a link but I have saved a hotrodding guide to the SD4. If you post or PM me your email I could send it to you (assuming somebody else doesn't pop in with a link).

According to Car & Driver (June 85), John Callies had built several different dispacement SD4's from 1.9L to 3.3L. Most of the development at that time had gone into a 2.7L engine that pumped out 300 HP at 7500 RPM.

The IMSA GTU car was a 2.7L SD4 with an 8000 RPM redline. It cranked out 275 HP at 7500 RPM and 250 lbft of torque at 6500 RPM.

Of course it also depends on whether you're using a pushrod head or a DOHC head, what bore and stroke it's set up for... it's a race engine.

Yup, there were a few DOHC heads made for them. Here's a bit from one of the 88 Pontiac brochure's:

Since there is no standard build, that depends on how it's built.
With billet steel shaft mount rockers, 7/16" pushrods, solid roller lifters and appropriate springs, you can see 10K on a pushrod engine for drag racing use.

Kansas Racing Products still builds SD4's and sells blocks and other parts:

And now I know why there was a 2.5L F-body... I had never seen a SD-4 Firebird. Thanks for the links Fierosound.
