Well, I have started laying the vinyl on my GT. It's going really well.
Here are the beginning pics as I go along.
Here is the Fender before I started. Removed the bolts to vinyl around them.

Now I know the pattern of the vinyl is not everyones cup of tea. Not necessarily mine either, BUT it was between this and matte white. I like this cause from 5' away it looks silver and up close it's surprising. Actually a very cool covering. It's working good. I actually did the drivers side rear quarter last night. I don't have pics of that yet.
Looks awesome! I'm debating between vinyl or paint. My only concern is weather it will start peeling around the corners. Also can you post a link where you got your vinyl from?

I'll tell ya, it's not perfection. Depending upon how good you are at laying it, is how good it is. Peeling, I have had my hood wrapped for about 4 months now and haven't thought twice about it. No peeling. Now when you are laying it, for the first couple days until it lays down completely, I have had to re-heat some corners to lay them back down but after it gets used to where it's gonna be, it lays down and forms to the car.
My best advise would be to start with something simple like a hood or even a mirror to practice on and see if it's something you like. I love mine
looks good ! has any one tried like doing a candy by using a silver vinyl then going over the top of that with a translucent colored vinyl it is just thought
How much do you estimate it will take? one 20' roll? Keep the pics coming!
It's more than one. Looking like it's going to be 2 -20' rolls. Not bad. I have almost both the sides done, I am missing the trunk and hood and some little pieces so I will order a new roll soon.
The seams on the front and back bumper is the only thing that bothers me. I am sure I could do it better but it's just SO much material to be experimenting.
Supposedly there is a way to stretch it properly to only be one long piece, but if you stretch it too much it can tare. I'm brave but not that brave yet. I wanna get the car finished before I go spending more money to eliminate the seams. For now it looks good. The other panels look amazing and I love it. ------------------ Car Thread: 86 GT https://www.fiero.nl/forum/F...ML/085541.html

From what you can tell in pics, it looks pretty good. The pattern makes it look sort of carbon fiberish. Looks better than I would have thought. You using a heat gun ? That would help form it around corners so it dont peel or lift there.

Yea, you have to use a heat gun. I'll prolly re-do the bumpers once I get it all done. I will have to buy a lot more vinyl to get it stretched properly. Being my first time playing with this stuff I am still learning how to manipulate it the way I need to.
bump! more pics needed! how are the seams and bumpers coming out?
Seems are ok. You can see them about 3 ft away. step back and they disappear. I am waiting on buying more vinyl. The price went up about $40 more after I bought my roll. Kinda annoying.
Looks like you did a nice job. I get doing it on a Fiero that has paint issues, but the car below is a $200,000 Ferrari 430 with a flat black vinyl wrap on it. Enzo is rolling over in his grave!

I've heard a lot of luxury and exotic car owners are doing this to protect the paint so the resale value will be there when trying to sell

I took this pic during the Gumball 3000, it is to protect the paint but half of the cars in the race needed new front bumpers anyways due to hitting things. The only car that was not wrapped during the race was a 57' Chevy that was bought the night before the race. I like your wrap btw, looks really good.
