Hi all, I am in the final prep stages of my ChumpCar build and am having some issues getting the aluminum radiator I bought to fit in the car. Here is the radiator I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271006823706

I followed Archie's instructions but am still having problems getting the radiator to fit in the mounts. I have gone as far as removing the rubber mounts on the bottom and still it doesn't seem to sit low enough to bolt in. Does anyone else have any tips for making this piece fit?

Hey

You can keep both upper and lower rubber isolators ( as long as you trim them, make them thinner )
You will have to "trim" the upper metal bracket around the radiator cap filler
You also need to be carefull where the bolts that hold the radiator fan go through,
I had to trim the radiator so that the bolts would not hit it.
Even after doing all the above, the upper bracket has to be pushed down pretty good to bolt it...

If it makes you feel any better, I probably had to put the radiator in and out at least 10 times

I hope that helps

Installing that Champion radiator is a very tight fit. In addition to cutting the lower and upper rubber insulators, the top bracket must be reshaped and trimmed a bit so that it can be bolted in place. Its doable but not easy

I put a Champion in my daughter's '86 GT. Just band-sawed the uprights off of the rubber "U" channels. It was a tight fit but went in on the first try.

I did this yesterday. If the rubber pieces will not fit over the radiator perfectly, and easily, the top support piece will not go all of the way down. Trim it right and it will work.
