Has anyone out there bought any of the aftermarket leather seat covers? A friend has a set, but after about a year, they are falling apart. No thanks, for the going $375-ish. The company will remain unnamed in case you've had better results.

I bought my seats from Mr. Mikes, I love them, his kits come with everything (all new material, video, special hog ring tool, hog rings, foam to build the seats back up, ect.) It takes about 2-3 hours and it is easy, I was worried about not getting them right but it is a no brainer!! As far as them holding up, I'm a very big guy (350+) and if they can hold up to my big *#@ they can hold up to anybody elses! As far as Mr. Mike goes the guy will walk you through it on the phone if need be, his service is great! www.mrmikes.com

I bought two sets from Mr. Mike at the same time so He gave me a discount. I've had them on a couple months. The first set I took my time putting on but the second set I was in a hurry. I didnt put in the extra batting and they are more wrinkled but they are durable. I think it has to do with the patience and experience of the installer. You didnt specify how they were coming apart.
For anyone interested, I have just completed a transplant of tan leather '96 Trans Am seats into my '86 GT. Since the interior architecture of ther Fiero never changed throughout production, this info would pertain to all Fieros. I have posted details on the Fiero List; and found this site very interesting. Anyone interested can mail me for details.
How do the replacement seats look? I've seen many pics of the Mr. Mikes leather seats, as well as a couple other places (Pisa was one of them, forget the other one.) and they looked pretty good.. Mr Mikes looked the best IMHO.. I'd be interested in seeing how the T/A seats looked.. do you have any photos?

My car clubs president has the Mr. Mikes leathers. His have been in about a year (thought the car is no daily driver) they look and SMELL like new leathers every time if seen it. They look really good and seem to hold up well. No extra stretch in any places that ive noted.

I have several pictures of the completed installation of the '96 Trans Am seats in my Fiero. They were a good alternative to Mr. Mikes only because I got them for $150, wiring and everything. They are tan leather, and have manual adjustment for fore/aft, seat tilt angle (like a rocking chair moves), seatback recliner, and thigh support. Additionally, there is power adjustment for the lumbar and side boltsters, with the controls built into the sides of the seats. The only thing required to install the F-body seats in a Fiero is to slot the front seat bracket holes about 1/4" in order to line up perfectly with the existing Fiero studs. Be aware that you will lose about 1 1/2" of headroom AND legroom. Don't do this in a car that does not have tilt, folks. I'm 6'3"-190lb and fit just right. Helps that my car has a sunroof, 'cause my head sits 2" from the glass. The seats look good in the car. They are also far more comfortable than the stock seats. They will be even more so when I get the power adjustments hooked up. It is a self contained harness for the seats; all that has to be hooked into the Fiero's electrical system is power and ground. The harness (and air tube) will have to be lengthened due to the fact that the Fiero's center console is far taller than the F-body's. Other than that, It's pretty straightforward. Installation took me about 40 minutes.
There is no problem with clearance for the inboard seatbelt buckles or the parking brake lever.
If you want to see pictures, I'd be happy to e-mail them to you. Just submit a request for them at my e-mail address, listed at the bottom of my previous post.
I picked up a set of seats out of a Firebird and put them in my fiero as well. I chose to just swap the rails that the seat rides on and it was an easy install as well. The ones I got werent power thought. It sounds like changing the rails offered a little less of the space loss that what your install did, because I am about your height, but have a few pounds on you. Either way, they do look good.

The seats I used are tan and are darker than the originals. They match the darker tan of my 2-tone dash perfectly. I know that they come in gray, too. I'd imagine that it would be a gark gray, almost like a graphite. As far as the posting of the pics is concerned, please do!!! I'd be more than happy to share the info I've learned, and keep as many Fiero's in as good shape as possible. I'd post it myself, but I don't know how!
DJRIce: I'm glad to hear that your seat install went good! Would you mind posting a little more detail about the swapping of the rails? I have another Fiero, too. It could use a set of seats too. I'f you don't mind, I have about 100 people that would like some details about the rail swap!

They are 4th gen seats, I actually picked up a grey set out of a Camaro and a Tan set out of a Firebird. I didnt get leather but I paid considerbely less for the seats than you did, It helps to have gone to high school with the guys that work the counter at the local junkyard!
Anyway, Just flip the seat over, and there will be 4 10mm bolts holding the rail assembly to some studs on the seats frame, Apparently the construction of the seats themself have not changed at all in the past 15 years, because the Fiero Rail assembly went on with no modification. Its a very easy job, I did a seat swap on my brothers 86 and my 84 from start to finish in about 2 hrs.
I also had the thought that a Saturn might make a good donor car for Seats, but I havent looked into that one yet.
