To start with let me explain. This is not a show car or a finished product, It is a Junker that I could cut up to proto-type this setup on and to prove that it can be done. There are several ways to address each of the concerns that where stated in the previous thread. That is what building a custom car is all about. It is an expression of the Design, Imagination, Talent, skill and Engineering of the creator. To simply buy something, open the box, bolt it on, is what I call a "Cookie Cutter Custom".

There are a lot of things that I would do to this car before I would call it Good and there are a lot of different ways and different levels to which they could be done.

I could design and build a hinge that would bolt right in to the Fiero and do the job, but I didn't think the market would support the cost of development. I would have to sell that kit for Like $3,000.00. Are there any takers?

This kit can work on any car and allows the builder to exercise their own skills and build a true custom. If you are looking for a cheap way to this, than you have to figure that there will be some things about it that are not as nice as the more expensive ways. Most importantly it is done to YOUR specs. One of the areas of give and take is the position of the door when it is open. To increase this you may have to have the window down first or modify the roof line, etc.

Building First Class Custom Cars is done by people that have years of experience doing regular work, then they bring it to a higher level.

These are hinges and an installation kit. The rest is up to the builder. And YES it can be done.

As for the Instructions. They are intended to give you the basic principles, parameters, guidelines and factors for you to use in your engineering of the project.

Here is a picture of the door opening from a perspective behind the door. The movies and pictures on our site are photographed from slightly ahead of the door - the vertical beams of the hoist would have obscured the view.

edit: Thanks for MinnGreenGT on the URL correction.

Sincerely
Ross

you're html code won't work to post the image, you'll have to use UBB code (use {img}{/img} tags instead while replacing {} with [])

not sure if this pic will work or not...

Thank you for stopping by the forum to address some of the questions!

Are you willing/able to install this type of system on a customer's car at their request?

That's OK- I'm pretty sure there is a waiting list on my checking account as well. Any (rough) estimates on an install like that? (nothing we can hold you to, of course).

Can we get more photos? One from the side one from the front and another from close up as if you were getting in the car?

From what I see it looks good.

Excellent. Thanks for replying. I think one important question though, is:

Though this kit obviously will involve some welding and bodywork, would it be possible to restore the door's old functionality if later one decides to not use the fancy doors? It kinda means the difference between putting these on a currently nice car, or putting them on a car you're building up, since nobody would dare do something so extreme to the already-nice car...

I've been thinking about those doors all week, and how I'd put them to use. They'd be very cool on a choptop!

I tried to fix the URL but it still acts wierd. It took the period at the end of the sentence and tried to include it in the URL.
try www.iserv.net/~strdream
according to my files I did answer the email. Try it again.
Going back to stock is possible.
It would be as much work as if the A piler where collision damaged and needed a section of it replaced. Kind of a bit of work but do-able

There is the possibility of adding a door handle controlled electric switch assembly and a small timer that would roll the window down, and then once the door is latched again, roll it back up. Only problem would be designing a circuit for that

One way to avoid having to put a motor in your door to roll the window up and down for this is to make the hinges so you don't need to roll them down!

Is it necessary to roll the window down before opening it with this? The video suggested otherwise.

Synthesis, I believe it's possible, anything is. When you close the doors on an M3 the windows automatically roll down slightly and back up to form a better seal, believe it's supposed to prevent wind noise at higher speeds since it's also a headerless door. I'm not an electrical engineer but I'm sure a circuit could be made to control it if something like that is needed on this setup.

You could also power your windows, door locks, and remote start from a key fob.

I have one more question.
I believe myself to be a seriously potential customer, and am trying to gather as much info as possible right now on these hinge kits.

Here's my other question/suggestion:

For the people thinking of doing this to their Fieros, and for the fact being that you've already completed this task on a Fiero, would you be able to provide detailed "blueprints" to just show the Fiero project specifications?
I.E.
metal cut lengths
strut position/length/strengths
hinge angles
etc...

Would this be available?
