I bought the scoop from Beachbomb. With a little more notice I could have had it cleaned up and sent to you to use on your Pace Car.
It needs a little TLC as far as paint.

Actually I only meet with them this Saturday so they check over my Indy and show me the ropes, as the actual race I will pace for them is not for a few more weeks yet. Not to steal the thread here, though RWDPLZ and I obviously have a similar interest, but would you be willing to sell that Earl? Or at least worst (or best ) case send it to me as a loaner? We can cover expenses on shipping. As a bonus, we can even clean it up and touch up the paint on our end for you, that is assuming you don't want to sell it of course We restored my Indy so touching up that scoop shouldn't be much for Dad. The actual race that I will be pacing with my Indy is on May 24, so we have some time to come up with something, not much time but some.
It's all yours, Fiero5. I don't even have the Fiero yet. I just LOVE Indys!!! I love looking at pics of yours and your family's Fieros. I still can't BELIEVE a whole family likes Fieros. Everyone in my family DESPISES them!

Remember I want pictures of your car with it on, better if someone can get a pic of it on the track so I can frame it. Nothing like a Indy, except maybe my Blue GT

Don't worry, anyone who knows us knows that we take pictures. Boy do we take pictures! Just look at our poor cardomain web site for an example. We are up to almost 400 pictures on that now LOL And we are going to take digital video footage of me pacing the race with my Indy as well. Hopefully we will have enough people we know there that can film at different parts of the raceway for some cool angles. I think we can accomodate the want for pics on this one
Thanks again Earl
Now, let's cross our fingers that Saturdays meeting and the inspection of my Indy at the track goes as well as it should. We will take pics and video of that also. Stay tuned for the first round of pics coming real soon!

All he really needs it for is the amber light to pace the race cars. He probably won't make it functional. I have seen them made functional as "RAM" air intakes.

This Scoop isn't functional. It's strickly for looks. All NASCAR pace cars need amber lights to indicate that they are the pace car. So I decided to let Steve borrow it for the event.

ARen't those just complete sh*t though. I mean c'mon isn't it really just pushing hot engine air back into system?
No, The ones that go over the side vents are the wrong flow ones. The Indy scoop, If used for cooling, force air down the backside of the engine. The Fiero is designed so the air comes from the rear window side of the engine, flows over the engine, (or out the side vents) and out trunk side. The scoop forces air down the trunk side of the engine, which draws the alreay rising hot air from the rear window side. My actual engine compartment temps dropped by 15* with the indy scoop on. Once I get the new engine in, I may duct the indy scoop directly to the intake and used both side scoops to provide cool air into the engine compartment.

When we finally get one of our own Indy scoops, we will make it functional. However, in the mean time the whole point of borrowing this one is to get my Indy to have as close of a look to this:
Even though my goal is to make my Indy Fiero look similar to the real Indy Fiero, I don't think you will see me painting my side trim white like the actual pace car had anytime soon, as that would then permently change my Indy from being stock. As for the rims, I do know where there is a set of Dodge Daytona rims for sale. If I had the cash I would run right out and buy them and slap some tires I have on them in a heart beat, so then my rims would look very close to the original pace car rims as well. But right at the moment I have so little cash and so many bills Don't we all.
Anyway, as soon as the scoop arrives from FieroGT87, I will be setting up another appointment with Mr. Beabe and his track crew to take the Indy with the scoop mounted back to the track so they can approve the lights. We will try and take pics of every step as we go so everyone can follow this as it comes together. I will probably start a new thread Saturday afternoon or so with the pics we get from going down to the first meeting at the speedway at 1pm with the Indy.
Wish me luck.
Steve

I'm looking at the one on eBay. Does anyone know if that scoop can be adapted to fit over the grill behind the driver? The reason I ask is because with the huge blind spots the Fiero has, I don't want to be adding another one. Thanks.

All the hardware including harness and 5 extra strobe lights.
One strobe light point to each side and one to the back.
closer view of the strobe lights.
This is how it opens. It mount through the grates in the 84 deck lid and has a latch on the front side so you can tilt it back when opening the rear deck lid.
Steve, you will need to wire a switch to the inside of the car to turn the lights on and off. On the harness has two bare wires one for ground one hot.
The harness connected, very easy to do.

Say fellows, by what mechanical means do these things move up and over the roof when the lid is lifted?
Gary Sconce yosemitefieros
There is a hinge, latch, and strut that is used. You unlatch the front and the scoop pops up and angles rearward to allow the decklid to open. I did not use this method on mine. The support for the strut blocks airflow and I have heard too many horror stories of the latch failing and popping loose while driving. (The scoop gets ripped off the car) I have 4 bolts I take off then the scoop comes off.
If anyone is interested, I still have the strut that originally came with my scoop. If you buy Doug's on Ebay, I'll let you have the strut for just the shipping costs.
Blade_69, Moving the scoop to the side vent won't work. The length of the base is longer than the decklid vent. If you want a scoop for the vent, You need to locate the "Fi-Air-O" scoops or the "Lazy C" scoops (if you have a notchback). These were designed to fit over the vents. The Indy scoop is designed for the middle.

You might want to put some RTV or somthing like that on the wire insertion sides of those Molex connectors. I used to work on aircraft and have installed strobes bofore. They will want to arc between the terminals which will break down the plastic of the molex connectors, which will cause shorting of the terminals and lots of corrosion. You will end up replacing the connectors constantly. I speek from experiance.

Thanks Oreif. I have a notchback and I was looking at it and it did look to be too long. Also, the trunk lid I have is the one with the "hump" in it so I don't think the one on eBay will work anyway. That's why I was asking if I could place it on the driver side. I know these are next to impossible to find, but does anyone know where I can get a drivers side Fi-Air-O scoop? I've never heard of the "Lazy C" scoop. Are there any of those around to see what they look like or where to get one? I know there's a guy on eBay that sells some type of over the roof scoop but it looks really boxy. Not sleek. Thanks.

The Indy scoops are pre-cut for the 84 decklid and you need to trim the bottom for the hump or the GT decklid. My scoop came with markings inside the scoop for the different decklids. (I have an 86 with the hump) The other scoops need to be located used. I don't know of anyone making them new.

i have a four cyl. fiero set up like that now. it's fairly rough but since i want to eventually try an engine change i didn't bother with the cosmetics of it. it's not too hard though, and since the '84 intake is a little different than later years (kind of more centered under the lid) it might be even easier to work out.

Hey Orief. Do you have a pic you could send me of yours with the four bolt method? I'd like to see what it looks like. Also, how long does it take for you to get into your trunk? Maybe a different method of bolting it to the hood would keep it from getting ripped off (ouch!!).

I thought about doing this also. I'm no mechanic, but if you happen to be driving in the rain, it doesn't seem to be a good idea to have water going directly in to the intake.
Also, how much MORE of a blindspot do you have now with the scoop back there? Seems like it would make things a bit less visible.
I see you live in Schaumburg. Maybe I could stop by and check it out sometime.

Any news on a shipping date of the scoop yet? The race is now only a week and a half away.
Thanks again

It has been sent by Priority mail and insured. I couldn't find a box for it. I had to talk one of my wifes friends out of a box to ship in. I threw the box it originally came in away last year, because I wasn't planning on shipping it anywhere else.
If it isn't there by Friday let me know, I shipped it out yesterday.

OK thanks. If it went out yesterday then I should see it by Friday. That will allow us to test fit it and take it back down to the track on Saturday and maybe even get more pics This time with the scoop on it and lit up.
Thanks again
