Looks like it's gonna be a busy 4 days in MI. Are you sure there's enough time to do all the events? I'd hate to have to pick and choose what between them all
So far it looks like the GTA Fiero Club will be coming out thursday morning, bright n' early.

I have already made my reservations. I am looking forward to meeting a lot of new folks. I was able to use some Delta frequent flyer miles, so I won't be bringing my car. I will be looking to hitch a ride for the track events and cruise(s). Paul

It's 194 days until the Waterford Hills Track Day on Thursday, July 17. Just under 24 weeks. I get 13 more paychecks between now & then, and I have asked my boss for all the overtime I can get.
Also, please note some information added to the first post: Friday's rock wall climbing, with Space Coast Fieros, and to inform that Saturday's "special" trophy categories are to be judged by NIFE.

Is the show going to be at the hotel? It looks that way from how you stated it, but just rechecking.
Yes, except as stated in the first post of this thread, everything will be at the parking lot or facilities of this hotel. You are NOT required to get a room at this hotel in order to attend the functions, but we paid a big chunk o' money to reserve a bunch of rooms, so naturally the event organizers encourage you to stay there. This is a 4-star classy joint, and they are cutting their rate in half for us!

Did you ever get the special rate to start on Wednesday rather than Thursday? I made my reservation for arrival Wed @ $170/night while the Thursday-Sat the "special rate". All I can say is owie..I wonder what you get for $170 that you don't get for $89.

I know I called the hotel about a month ago and talked to them about different rates (AAA, Fiero, Gov't Employee) and the chepest at the host hotel was $80 a night if you were a AAA memeber, although they said that rate could change depending on when you call. I'm not currently a AAA member but will be before I take my Fiero on that long of a trip.

Mosh .... I will be heading up to Michigan on the evening of the 16th (a night early) ... but I think if possible we should get a Ohio, WVa, Pa carravan going. It would be nice to cruise up with 007Doug, MRJ, Sage, Reality, all the good folks from COFE and Cleveland Fieros ... etc. etc.

Made my hotel reservation. Sent MFC a rubber check
I don't know who to thank, but in looking at the registration form, there is something for everybody. They have so many reg options, that I have never seen for another show! W or W/O tshirt, just car entry, banquet yes or no, itemized costs if you want an extra shirt or plaque... VERY Impressive.
I also see that you can still come to the awards show even if you dont buy a banquet ticket. I feel that allows those looking for the most economy or uninterested in food (I can't imagine that) the benefit of still being very involved. Again, nice.
Lots of car classes! I qualify for: Formula-semi modified-work in progress-daily driver notchback. I need a "I dunno, You decide Judge" class.
What's the difference between Custom and Modified? What's the difference between Semi/Regular/Heavily custom or modified. Isn't a 6 cyl coupe really an SE? Or is it a 4 banger that someone dropped a 2.8 in? Would 3800's & 3.4's be in 6 cyl coupe class, they are 6 cylinders after all? If you put even a 2.8 in a 4 cyl car, doesnt that therefore make it custom or modified or somesuch? What qualifies as Competition Fiero? tub bodies or just people who race their Fiero's?
Again, I appreciate the diversity, I'm just a little overwhelmed

You can thank CFOG-I and it's leadership and members .... You can thank Michigan Fiero Club and it's leadership and members and Y'all can thank yourselves for all the input (positive and negative) we have recieved via emails, the CFOG-I forum and, of coarse, Cliff Pennock for letting us rant and rave about this event in this fine forum.
We want everyone to attend and have a great time !!!! Truly an "Event to Remember"
but I think if possible we should get a Ohio, WVa, Pa carravan going. It would be nice to cruise up with 007Doug, MRJ, Sage, Reality, all the good folks from COFE and Cleveland Fieros ... etc. etc.
Id like to caravan up with some Ohio folks depending on departure time.

If it's possible, wouldn't it be cool to have some VERY HOT chicks (or maybe even Hooter's Girls) on hand to take pics with us and/or our cars....
I'd be willing to pay for this priveledge. Maybe we could even donate some of the money raised this way to a local charity...
Feel free to flame away for the chicks comment or the sexist fact that I ASSUME most of the Fiero owners are guys.
The idea has not been discussed, and I *highly* doubt that it will even be considered. (Sorry, but I wouldn't second such a motion if it were brought to the CFOG Board of Directors.) What we are trying to provide is a friendly, family atmosphere - not a "meat market" type event.

Tell me more about the track day at Waterford Hills please.
Do we have to pre register for the day ? Is there additional fee's to be paid ? What equipment do we need ? Do we need to bring proof of track time at other tracks and skill level ? Will food be available ? Is there a more complete schedule for the event available ?

The first thing I can tell you is that I can't tell you anything for sure.
CFOGi has the track reserved for Thursday, July 17th, but a contract has not yet been signed. We can't do that only because the track at Waterford is in "negotiations" with the City of Waterford about how many hours per week the track can have competition, etc. Once all that is hashed out, we will go from there.
There WILL be a pre-registration. The cost will be as much in line with, or cheaper than a track day with the SCCA, NASA, or other sanctioning body. I am hoping that $50 for CFOGi members ($75 for non-members) will cover registration. But there are a couple factors driving the cost: (1) The insurance industry has just made a huge increase in their premiums for any and all forms of motorsports, and (2) The track won't set a fee until they are done with their negotiations.
Unless you bring a competition car with a logbook, and you are a competition licensed driver (from any recognized sanctioning body) you will not be able to drive in the wheel-to-wheel road racing group. For most of us common folk, that will just be a fun thing to watch, the first all-Fiero road race in the history of the car (at least to my knowledge).
What we do offer are several other groups for us "common folk". These groups will use "gentlemen's rules" - no passing in corners (only on designated straights), two wheels off is a black flag and a session with an instructor, 4 wheels off is a black flag for the remainder of the session, etc. If you have had any experience with other track days, it will be no different than most.
For everybody, regardless of experience level, a mandatory drivers school is planned . That should take place at about 11:30AM with sandwiches and chips.
The first group, Group "A", will be the racers. Every group is doing 20 minute sessions. So when Group "A" finishes, then Group "B" will get 20 minutes, and so forth. An instructor (one of the actual Fiero racers, most likely) will take a lap or two with every driver. Once the instructor is comfortable that you know what you are doing he will jump out and turn you loose for the rest of the afternoon. We anticipate being able to have a minimum of 3 sessions per group, or about an hour of track time. That should wear out all but the most hardcore racer at a very inexpensive price.
The only thing that each competitor will need (except for the racers, more later) is to wear jeans or slacks (no shorts), shirt and shoes. You will also need a Snell 90 or newer helmet (M helmets are OK). The car will be required to pass a tech inspection, and more emphasis will be placed on brakes that in an autocross (other than brakes, it will be similar to a Solo tech - no loose items in the car, battery is secured, tires have acceptable levels of rubber, wheel bearings do not have slop, etc.)
For Group "A", standard safety items are required - window net, fire extinguisher, full approved cage, harness, and a logbook (as previoulsy mentioned). The drivers must have a drivers suit, an SA Snell approved helmet, bacalavas are recommended (but not required unless there is facial hair), and again a competition license from any recognized sanctioning body. These will be IT and GT cars mostly, but there may be a new Spec Fiero there, and maybe a couple one-off Fiero racers.
There is a full service snack bar at the track, and a lunch (for competitors only) will be provided in conjunction with the drivers school/meeting.
Any more details cannot be provided quite yet, and the above is subject to change dependent on how the final contract with Waterford reads.
Whew - - a long winded answer, but you did ask a lot of questions. For further info please e-mail me direct at gryan3@mindspring.com. I haven't logged on to PFF for so long I almost forgot my password. I have been too busy with working on the 20th, and also setting up a drag race and autocross in conjunction with Ed's swap meet. Stay tuned - - -
Hope this helps

Well as a lot of you fine folks know, I don't have a fiero anymore, but hopefully by then I will. But it'll look like if i stay overnight, it'll be sleeping in the car... My dad won't even go for it, after I said I'd pay for the room for friday and saturday night. He only wants to go one day, but I don't think he knows about all of the events planned.

Yesterday morning going in to work I pulled up next to a sharp black GT (license plate ZBADBOY) at a red light.
I waved for him to roll down his window and in the remaining 15 seconds I had I told him about the 20th anniv bash. He said he knew nothing about it so I told him to go to www.fiero.nl for full details. He thanked me and we drove off.
I have a feeling he's going to go to www.fiero.com instead by mistake and not find the 20th anniv info.
This guy definitely looked like he'd attend if he knew about it, as would many other Fiero owners if they knew about it. And the sad thing is that our stop-light conversation occurred about 3 miles from the anniv bash hotel site.
So my question is: how can we raise the awareness level to the majority of Fiero owners out there who have no clue about this (excellent) website or who do not happen to be tied in to some club?

I've often pondered that predicament. One thing I hope to accomplish to that end, is to get the assistance of the Pontiac dealerships along the caravan routes. I'll soon be sending out letters to all of them, asking not only for aid for our travelers and support for the event, but asking them to include some mention of it in their advertisements (print, TV, billboards, etc.).
The only other thing I can think of, aside from mega-bucks corporate involvement (dreaming again), is if the masses of Fiero people who DO know about it (basically, you folks right here) would place copies of flyers at their local parts stores.
We're already working on getting the info to the magazines. For starters, check out the March issue of Grassroots Motorsports on page 12.

With all due respect, I'd forget the dealer angle. That is wishful thinking. All they care about is selling you a new Aztek. The Fiero is forgotten ancient history to them. You may find a rare exception dealer, but unless we can offer them something in return we'll be barking up the wrong tree.
I'm afraid I don't have any alternatives at this time other than to spread the news by word of mouth, flyers, etc. but I wouldn't waste time/effort on the dealers.
I agree that sending the info in to the various Pontiac enthusiast magazines is a good idea. Just keep in mind that they usually need notice 3 months in advance of publication date.
