1) It was a long way from the hotel 2) Fierochic gets lost easily (not her fault (bad directions)... and we got there under her guidance!) 3) Detroit traffic sucks 4) The weather was amazing 5) Green light doesn't mean go, Yellow light means go.
Most importantly, you cannot beat ANY car if your car runs out of gas about 1/8 of a mile down the track
My performance? Keep in mind I am a stock 2.8, 100,000mi auto with 50lbs of dynamat. Biggest mod is Sprints. Running CRX K&N intake, no cat. Haven't raced in 12 years.
16.44et. Not too bad I reckon.
I ran 10 times, most between 16.5 with two 17.0/17.1's. Horrible reaction times. Based on the aforementioned sentence, I never red lighted.
Mt worst time? 30.30et @ 24mph. I was racing against Don Krauss's 3800sc no less!
I enjoyed watching the N*'s square off against each other. I was too busy racing, so no pictures, but I'm sure plenty will be posted!

Wow , that was fun even though I didn't race! Wow, saw alot of great Fiero's and met lots of the best people in the world!
blakeinspace, you ran outa gas?! Oh thank goodness, all of us in the stands thought the worst when we saw you creep down the strip with the "safety safari" in pursuit.
And what about our friend in the "chopped" white Fiero, when he "finally hit the shift" into second that car really moved! Man alive, those big blocks really move! Did I see a 12?
I really want to apologize for the bad traffic back from drag strip. The state police really should move off the x-way after thay do their work so people dont gawk, but I did see the "cuffs" go one guy! "Book him Dano".
Saw alot of 15's and 16's, good head to head racing. I was told by several people that they could have done better if the starting line wasn't so slick.
Oh, get this, on way home some guy pulls alongside and says "I've never seen so many Fiero's in my whole life, they are all over expressway"." Is there a meet going on somewhere"?
Special thanks to Rodney Dickman. His 180*F thermostat and his 185*F / 195*F fan switch kept my 87 nice and cool in the traffic.

not too many v8's showed up... They would have made an awesome show, and I hope that if CFOG can swing it again, we can rent a drag strip and get a little more participation from the 350's. We all know they can perform, they just weren't out there today.
Special thanks to Boomtastic (Eric) for making this event happen.
jetman- yeah it was just gas, glad I gave everyone something to laugh about and speculate. The guy in the white chop I think was running an all aluminum Cosworth-Vega engine. He had a hell of a time finding second, but gawd... when he did... watch out!
and revin, for your info... I almost beat Loyde's 400hp 3800. Okay... so Loyde missed 3rd gear twice and just gave up and went to 4th gear and blew by me at 96mph... but beat me by less than a second! So you and your paltry 3800 can shut up. I can take you... your dang tranny is still stuck in 4th. Wish you were here buddy.

Oh big deal just because loyde CAN'T DRIVE doesn't mean I won't wipe you up!!
Tranny is fixed and better than ever! (P.S. I know where 3rd is )
take plenty of pics for me!! I wish I was there as well
It was disappointing that very few cars showed up. As mentioned, the track was very slippery from the launch. The fastest time I saw was from Don Kraus. He ran 12.0 in his 3.8l SC car. Steve Hamm ran a miserable 13.2 but at 113MPH. That's what we call a bad launch. He had the fastest speed of the day. I managed 13.3 @ 104MPH. I was hoping more 12-13 second cars would have made it, but none were around. I think there was only 1 Archie car there and it had some tuning issues and was pretty slow. Hopefully someone organizing the event kept track of all the times and can post a summary.
Matt
PS - blakeinspace, was that you that I had to swerve around at the end of the track? I couldn't believe they let us run with you down there. I didn't even see you until I had passed through the traps.
Alot of cars showed up for Milan, but it only seemed liked 10 or so ran, and maybe only 6 did the bracket race. I ran & raced my 3.1 3spd auto.
Times - 16.1 first run, motor cold, with a 1.2 reaction time learned you dont go on green, you go on last yellow.... after that, it was 16.4's but my reaction time was getting better each time, best being .8, which still isnt that good. seems the warmer the motor got, the slower it was. let it sit for a bit (30 mins) went again, got a 16.3 so, I'm thinking, I can get 15.7 out of my 3.1 with practice - getting my reaction time down to .4 & .5's I was seeing people get.

The northstar convertible ran mid 13's, it was nice, and he even gave me a ride back to Pontiac!! Thats such a nice car.
My best run was a 13.809 at just over 100 MPH. My reaction times were decent.....mostly in the .600 range. The last run I redlighted, but had a .498 reaction time (just a tick away from a perfect launch!).
I filmed quite a bit, I think the fastest run was by the red 3800SC Aldino I think he ran a 12.84 or something like that. I know the northstar convertible and navy blue northstar with supra wing (Chris Moore's??) both ran in the 13's and the I think it was a turbo silver fastback ran a 13.44 I think at 105 MPH I think. Just going by memory here, I was filming but its hard to read the times on the signs with the video camera.

Had a great time meeting you guys, and racing with some of you at Milan.I'm a little miffed that more V8's didn't come down and race,I was looking forward to running against them.My best time for the day was 12.04 at 111 MPH.At first I could't get bite so I lowered the rear and then I pulled the front off the ground again and that's not good for times.Thank's to all the people who put the hard work in to make this all possible.

wpgfiero - That was my silver fastback. Are you planning on posting any video to the forum? Like Don said, I wish more V8 cars would have shown up. I hope it wasn't because of all the bad mouthing on the list. I just wanted to see some of the faster cars on the list put on a good show. Regardless of what engine was under the decklid.
GOOD JOB Don Kraus! Hope those out there who did not believe you are eating humble pie! But I tell you, getting info from witnesses is like pulling teeth. If you don't know what the times were, don't post what you think they were! I CANNOT believe no SBC V8 guys showed up! That is the biggest disappointment of the year! At least the N* were willing to back up their talk. Anyway, glad to hear a 3800 powered car was the quickest for the event. I heard there was a Cosworth powered car there. What is the story behind that? I would like to have everyone post their FASTEST ET's that participated. Wish I was there.

This was with ~11 psi boost. I can't seem to get accurate boost control over this. Hopefully when I get things sorted with 14 psi, I can run in the 12s.

I so wish i could of been there. My car is running awesome right now, and with the alcohol injection system, all i can say is, 12.0 oh man would you guys of been in for a suprise. Ill have some new times and videos for my car later on this year. Im still shooting for 10's in total street drivable trim. Pump gas and all, just to show what the L67 is capable of. Sorry to hear about your engine Purple Reign. Get that thing back together, i need some competition.

Sweet car man! I love the sound when you shift gears. I would love to post video to the forum, if someone can tell me how to get it from my 8mm tape in the camera to the computer and how to split it up so i'm not posting a 2 hour video then I'll gladly post it
I was a bit dissapointed I didn't get that red turbo fastback that ran near the end on tape. I filmed most of the runs near the start and then when he started to go I was like damn, wish I had been filming

I had the only SBC Fiero at the drags, and sadly put in some miserable times (15.7 being the best !!!), the engine seemed to lack power in the upper rpm range. I had not noticed it when driving around but then I do not often blat away from a standing start to max revs through the gearbox. I guess I need to schedule that dyno session before visiting the track again, but it was my first time drag racing and it was fun. Especially racing against Don Kraus in his wheelstanding monster, really makes you feel humble as he leaves you for dead, but next time with a correclty tuned engine who knows !

I'd like to thank JETMAN for the ice cold water - it was a welcomed quencher for me as I was out in the lot in the sun handling the incoming traffic/registrations.
So a very big thanks to you for your kindness !!
Unfortunately I was too busy to see any but the last 2 runs and I was actually photographing them for one of the drivers so I really didn't get to watch them either but everyone I talked to said it was a wonderful time and they enjoyed themselves.
Kudos to Eric (and George - The Preformance Division) for some great fun!
First of all, THANKS to everyone that showed up to race. I hope everyone that was there had fun, despite any problems that arose. I'm sorry that the track was so far away from the hotel, but 2 important factors attributed to this:
a) The first track I contacted, which was considerably closer, was not interested in returning my emails for rental quotes. (Technically, they did not respond to ANY of my emails!!)
b) Milan Dragway, which then became our second choice, is also a better 'groomed' facility. Sadly, the better track was also 1 hr 15 minutes away.
But I digress. Roughly a year ago I was asked to organize *all* of the events for Friday, including the drag racing. We knew at that time that the 20th show was going to be special, and skimping was NOT something I was about to do. Sadly, being 1100 miles away doesn't allow the liberties of being able to pre-drive the route from the hotel to the track, note any direction descepancies, construction, etc. Bob Holtz did his best with Yahoo Maps, and I commend him on that. Sadly, Michigan has some screwy road markings and Yahoo isn't entirely clear themselves. Who would know that M14 was actually Route 14 unless you just tried it?? For those that had trouble with the directions, I personally apologized, and asked that the tower extend the 'Test & Tune' part of the racing to accomodate those that were delayed. I also apologize again to the few that did not hear the announcement of the first round of bracket racing. Drag strip PA systems are notoriously 'muddy', and my bracket racing instructions (emailed to those that preregistered) mentioned this.
All in all, I believe the drag racing was a success, and it is something that we will continue to refine for future events.

Make no mistake this is just a minor setback.........the damage looks to be not as severe as last time. But I guess i could look at it this way...........I'll have more time to "clean up" the engine bay & wiring and look at my transmission noise. It's sad than the day before it was running really beautiful too..........and from Chicago I went and ran down a new Bonneville. Oslo has some really great video

I went to Milan and did a few test and tune runs. I was trying to get a good comparison between the new tires (Kumho MX) and the old (Kumho 712)...but I didn't find anything out there that I hadn't already at Waterford. The tires hooked up enough to get wheelhop, which is a first for me in the Fiero. Unfortunately, the launching area just wasn't sticky at all...I was only pulling 2.1ish on the 60' but with my older tires at a different track I was getting 2.0s. I hope they put some VHT down for the guys later because if my measly 3.4 with max performance street tires is breaking loose like it would on the street, I feel bad for the guys with big blocks trying to hook up!
I wish we could've seen some more V8s and "grudge matches" like so many have talked about having but very few have, but unfortunately not much of that went on.
I was pleased to race against mrfiero's Northstar Convertible; I was slow on the launch just so I could watch him. When he got past about 100' he just left me like I wasn't even trying. I was very impressed considering it's a stock engine! Reason number 437 to start the Northstar swap next year.
It's clear seeing my times that the drag strip isn't what I'm focused on...16 seconds with the 3.4 in it. I know that I could probably gain a second with smaller/lighter wheels and tires (50 pounds worth on each corner, almost) and building a better intake for the 3.4 so I can get past 4500 rpm with some power. I was in fourth gear and only getting 80 mph trap speeds, go figure.

Hey FieroX, I am surprised you haven't tried getting ahold of one of the many propane injection systems that are out now. I have heard they are about twice as good as the alky inj. Don't worry, I will offer some competition to you once I get a bigger intercooler on my turbo. I was slighly perterbed that I didn't make it to Milan on Friday, but we rolled into Pontiac at 6pm and I just didn't feel like making the drive down there. Made me mad because I was ready to roll on kill mode with my hot gas (105 Octane Booster Klotz Hitrate Racing Fuel Concentrate).
