Would someone knowlegable of what we're looking at please do a little play-by-play? Capt Fiero maybe? Is the conv a factory proto? (Cliff, I don't think interest in this is gonna die off very soon)
You know what pisses me off more than not being there? THE FACT THEY TOOK THESE DAMN THINGS OUTTA PRODUCTION! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THEM!?

-Blown 2.8 -Undergoing engine swap to a new 2.8 Damn Motor is out, cleaning and everything and trying to get the new one together and back in, in time for the 20th.
I was there, and I crawled underneath the convertible sorta, the rockers are solid metal, no plastic on them at all, so they had reinforced steel underneath the rockers, and put the rockers on for more strenght. I also got a 70 mile road trip in MRFIERO's northstar convertible, that thing friggen rocks, thanks for the ride back from the track!!! He was also nice enough to buy me a candy bar.

Look at the "Wind-deflector's" on the mirror's and the Wheel's are 5Spoke type...
Those wind deflectors look like the ones that are available from GM for the 3rd gen Corvette, (which has nearly identical mirrors to the Fiero) Been meaning to order a pair.
The 4 seater really looked better in person. It was prob my fav proto. Its really more of a 2+2, backs arent very roomy. It really looked sleek to me. Anyone notice the silver paint on it? It had gold pearl in the sunlite. Thats the one I would have drove home.

Roger, If it had the 'bumper pad' or the Formula nose it would defintely have had a Ferrarish/ Maseratiesque Quatro look to it. Bruce.
Yea, the 4 seater wasn't very good, very, very cramped, its worse than sitting in a firebird or camaro back seat. No room at all. Oh to the person building the convertible, I believe your wife was posting it in the technical discussion, please reinforce it, or the car will be ruined, if the roof is already cut off, you might be able to use 6 jacks set up to support the car while you put in the cross members, if you didn't open the doors, if you did, you might be able to do what I said to do, but the car will probably collapse, and it won't work anymore.

Did anybody get the story on the yellow & blue prototypes? I'm curious why they were made, etc.
The yellow and black car, frequently referred to as the "bumble bee car," was a Hot Rod magazine feature. At the time, it was used to demonstrate a new 16 valve head for the Iron Duke.
Obviously, GM (boo! Hiss!) put alot more money and thought into the Fiero than we give them any credit for. If we missed out on all the neat future cars, they also missed out on the small sports car revival. I wonder how much of an influence we had on the return of the Lotus Elan (a.k.a. Miata)? Certainly, the MR2 is the bastard son of the Fiero. With millions, and today billions, of dollars at stake in new car developement and their realistic fear of product liability suits GM can be understood (though never forgiven) for shying away from the challenging and different handling of a mid-engined sports car. Our country (perhaps I should say continent) automotive experience and taste is with under-steering pigs. The low polar moment of inertia in a mid-engined machine is terifying to most North American drivers. It's not just GM, Porsche ditched the 914 as soon as they got it to work. I know, because I owned, raced, and loved one. Even among experienced mid-engine drivers on this forum I see more requests for drag strip performance than I do for high G cornering (don't scream, I know many of us concentrate on handling, but an awful lot of threads are straight line questions). Hats off to GM, I still can't believe than my sophisticated mid-engine sportster was originally presented to the public as a secretary's commuter car.
Ohh trust me My GF Cher noticed that lil factoid pretty quickly. and plotted out with those around us a method of removing the plactic bags from over the signs.. calling a tow company and tossing the guy a few bucks to snag the cars(indy, 90, and maybe the conv were in blue lines) for us.. well, make that a whole lotta dollars. HEHEH I love that girl more and more every day, I almost think taking her to the show made her want her own Fiero.. And to think before the show she didnt really like the lil cars, and now shes wanting a prototype of her own!!! P.S she told me we could only have Fieros and kids if we had the 2+2!! Guess I'll have to start thinking of names to call the kids.. All the ones in the driveway!! (doubt I'll get that 4 seater!) L8!!

Who ever said working on Fieros wasn't any fun?? They must not of had a rebody!
