I'm drawing up a set of automotive blueprints
for the '90 Fiero.

Here is a comparison between the '90 fiero and a '88GT

I'm looking for multiple views of the actual
rear fast-back like part. It looks to me
like that would be an interesting thing to
make for the notchbacks.

Thanks, no It was too far of a roadtrip from San Diego and it feels like I had just left Michigan anyways (Was my old home for over 25 years)...

I was there in spirit thanks to PFF though
Did you actually make it? I was hoping that
I'd see pictures of the painted Smoooth.

Awesome job! I'd be interested in a set of blueprints, and willing to help if I can.

I took roughly 170 pictures of the 90, including the dimension shots. Have you seen all those threads? There are 7 or 8 threads.
I put many of the high resolution shots on the web, at 2048 x 1536. I can put more up there, up to 750MB.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

How much longer is the 90 than the 84-88's?

Since I have enough room on the web, I'll start uploading the rest. It's going to take some time, and some of the shots are near duplicates. I'll get on it. I'm just getting busy, catching up from being gone to Michigan, and leaving for the Vegas show early next week. Whew!

I don't see a problem with length. Lots of kits have extra length added on the back. The big trick is going to be creating the extra width in the nose, fenders, and doors.

Good project though!

Well if any of you have seen the 90 video they have the rear mounted to what they call "majic plates" Thats how they are able to get the width.

Ya'll remember that Aus already did a mock up of what it would take to give our cars a 90 look... Not a true 90 kit, but you could get the look with just a few pieces. The plexi is going to be the hard part for any kit...

No, the magic plates were to support the *longer* rear fascia. To get the width, you could build up off of the existing panels.

If I did a 90, I'd start with an existing car, with all the panels on (maybe a GT), and add to them. If you look at the contours, it appears that is how GM might have done it. I'd leave the original panels on (doing a one-off), but if you really wanted to be slick, or make a kit, you'd have to make all new removable panels.

Somebody please make a 90 Fiero kit. With all the information out there, it can't be that hard. I am sure it will sell more units than the GT40 Fiero kit. Who wants a GM car with a Ford body?! As for the people saying the 90 looks like a firebird, the Fiero has always looked like a mini firebird.

Ok wait a minute I don't want to ask a dumb question but I am sure someone will know. Did the 90 use the same space frame as the 84-88 fieros? I was at the 20th and they opened up the hood it looked exactly the same. Also, the cad drawing looks exactly the same except for the trunk which would explain the two decklids and the bigger trunk on the 1990. Thanks torxed for the post and welcome to the forum. One more person now waiting for Smooth to paint that car hehe.

click on "My Photos" then "90 prototype"

I've lost track of what percentage of my total pix I've uploaded (because of the Vegas show), but most of the significant ones are there. They are all high res versions, right out of the camera (around 660k each).

If there is anything else you need, let me know, and I'll look to see if I have it. Also, check out Boomtastic's web site, he's got some good stuff, including some shots I don't have.

I could only find 2 pictures of the Goodwrench, and both were with Frank and Marianne's car, posing next to it. I'm uploading them now. Follow the link in the post a couple of posts above, and go to "goodwrench".

Glad I could help. Speaking of, I'd been kicking around the idea of building one. If there is any other help you need, let me know. Your CAD drawings might be helpful to someone who wants to build one.
