Im very shocked that GM let everyone get very up close and personal with all the cars. They actually let people sit in the concepts(well the '90 Fiero and the 4 seater from what I can see)
I was just waiting to see pics of big barriers surrounding these cars, but to my suprise, there is people SITTING in them!
Im so jealous...some of you get to come home and say "I sat in the very rare and desierble '90 Fiero Prototype" or "I sat in the rear seats of the 4-seater concept Fiero"
Na, Na, I did :P It was great, but the 2+2 sucked because no rear room. I sat in the 90, convertible, IMSA racecar, 2+2, and thats it for the concepts. You all probably know by now, but I got a ride in Archie's Fino, 70 miles in mrfiero's Convertible Northstar, and a ride in the California Kid.

Dont take this as gospel, but I think that GM didn't care since they were destroying some prototypes after the show. I dont know any details, but it was a heavy rumor at the 20th.
Myself, I got to sit in the '90 prototype, Convertable, and got to ride in the Turbo.
I also have over 11 cameras worth of fiero pics!!!

To correct this rumor, before it gets out of hand, I talked to the guy "in the know" who also was the one that had the keys to all the prototypes, he said that 2 prototypes were "on the bubble" to be crushed...one is the copper speedster convertable that is in the Witzenberg Fiero book and the other is similar to the bumblebee drag car. GM has limited space (they are kept in climate controlled warehouses) and when GM dug the prototypes out for this show, they discovered that those two were in pretty bad shape and would require significant amounts of money to fix them...which isn't in the budget unless it is a significantly historical car, so they might be crushed to save warehouse space. The ones that made the show are safe for now.
He did say that he encouraged everyone to write GM and tell them how much you appreciated seeing these cars and encourage them to preserve them and bring them out more to other big Fiero shows. This is the only way that it will be ensured that they will be kept around.
He said he would give his contact information to write a thank you letter to so he could pass it on to the appropriate people at GM but I never got it. Does anyone else know who the guy in the blue t-shirt with the keys to the prototypes was? Or his e-mail??

Someone with CFOGI may have a way to get a good contact address or name for us to send "Thank you's" to. I suppose if all else fails, letters could be sent to the regular Pontiac customer service address. However, they may be more affective if we can better direct them!

A Michigan Club officer plans on getting in touch with club president's with an address to send letters to so contact your club pres in the near future.
Also, John Podiemski said that only 2 prototypes were getting crushed and they weren't even at the show. That was the official word from the GM crew.

Yeah, I got to drive the yellow and black one, Man was it fast. Everyone wanted me to do a wheelie but I didnt want to be known as the guy who wrecked a GM concept car. It was a great time. I also got to ride in the 4seater. They were great cars!

I was also surprised that there were no ropes around the cars. It gave me the feeling that they didn't intend to take them back to the warehouse, they were to be destroyed instead. You can't get within ten feet of GM concepts at any other show, including the '90 Fiero at the last show it was seen at. And now they leave them parked in a hotel parking lot all day without any supervision at all. A few of the cars were left unlocked all day for people to crawl around in.
I'm also surprised that GM brought these cars out at no charge. Purely for the joy a few hundred Fiero enthusiasts. Displaying these cars will not promote sales of new cars, so why spend money to do it? I don't think they did it just to be cool. When I heard someone say that these cars would not be going back to storage, I must admit I think it sounds believeable. I'm glad I had a chance to sit in a car that may never be seen again. Someone should have followed the truck when they left.

He said we should send letters to the Michigan Fiero club and they will forward them to the appropriate people at GM. So I guess he gave the contact info to someone in the club. He also said to be sure to thank them for bringing these cars out at no charge.
Let me inject a lil something here pertaining to the fact that the prototypes weren't roped off. At the street rod show in kentucky where i first photograghed the Ninty with lots of other prototypes that weren't roped off and there were 10's of thousands of people there. So I don't think that was the issue. But i think that there was a lot of disrespect shown for GM property like a bunch of lil kids that didn't care if they broke something or not when handling or even touching the cars. I also spoke to a rep for a company that takes over some protos in order for them to be shown again...at a price too.. this was so close to where the cars were kept and what the heck it'sa write off for them to show the cars like they did.. My thanks to GM for their support in showing the cars that they did

We were awoken Sat morning to some loud rumbling inside a truck right below our hotel room. When I looked out the window, I realized it was the concept cars unloading. So we immediately got dressed and headed down there. They would unload the cars , and would allow one person to ride around front to the parking lot. The guy even let Anthony Brown? (right?) drive the Yellow&Black drag car around!! My wife , Carolyn, got to ride in the last one unloaded , which turned out to be the first production 84 to come off the line!!! It was amazing to hear some of thses cars run, and you could tell some of them hadn't been started in a while by running kindof rough.

Ronnie, Thats correct ( Anthony Brown ) I cant believe you remembered my name. I was glad to see your wife get to ride in one. She was smiling ear to ear. I think we all were. I know I was after driving the black and yellow one. I can still feel the power.... ahh ahh ahhh
The guy in the blue shirt... I talked to him for a while about the protypes. From what I remeber, I believe he said he's one of the guys that takes care of the protoypes at GM. So He got all the protyopes and such, something to that affect. I think he also owned a silver 88 GT

I got a ride in the blue PPG pace car, That put the finishing touches on a great vacation. I didn't have a camera though. Anyone got pictures of me in the PPG car? I would love to have them! Another cool pic was the 4 people in the Fiero 2+2. I have to add, that the pace car was VERY loud, but was still comfortably quiet(er) on the inside. And the 90, had a sound to it that made me drool alittle. I forgot his name, but someone got a ride in the 90, and took video from within. Im hoping some DVD's will make it into circulation. I for one would buy them. Edit:
I just noticed something about those pics posted: For those that don't know me, Im the one standing in the background next to the real pace car.

I'm not sure if it was the first time in the history GM allowed people to get so close to a concept but I do know it is a rare thing. I will definatly like to write GM and Pontiac so they know how much I appriciate their generousity, even though I was not there myself.
