I can't put video up on the forum. First of all I don't know how to get it onto the computer (Windows XP is a pain for that stuff...), and secondly even if I did I don't have any hosting space anywhere. Anybody that does have web space, contact me.

It's a little more fun watching going down the highway at 60+ so that you cant even see the wheel, it looks like the car is riding on the 13" rotors

One blank tape comming to ya...............

Heya PR,

I haven't heard the stories about what happened to your car. I am a very big fan of what you have done, but I have just caught some people talking about how it broke or blew up, but never went into detail. I hope it wasn't serious. I'd like to see your 1/4 times because I am building a similiar 3800 SC w/o the NOS, and would like to know if any mods might be a hazard for a short term breakdown.

PS Awesome car!

Thanks,
Greg

in this build the only thing you will want to concentrate on is making the lower end bullet proof. You will need $$$$$ and a good machine shop. These are the issues I'm having right now. The second issue you want to nip in the bud is heat. Heat is a destroyer of engines in many ways and boosted engines not only run hotter they are very tempermental with getting hot in a fast hurry. Do EVERYTHING you can to keep the temp down. LMK if you need any more help.

A "+" back at ya. I am about to post my "plan" as far as mods go. I am still curious what exactly went wrong with yours. You can PM me if you wish. I'll PM you the link of my master plan. I'd love a detailed critique.

kinda sounds like the same type thing that killed the 2.8 in my 87. the thing started knocking after I ran it hot for too long, spun a bearing

not sure what happened when it overheated because the temp guage showed normal temps up until i saw steam and heard noises from the engine bay

From what it looks like I had a bad radiator cap up front ( such a stupid small part can cause so much trouble ) when you have a bad cap, it changes the boiling point of your coolant, therfore on hotter days it was always running warm. Also I was running without a thermostat which is a little no no, when pushed on a hot day that is when it overheats. Then when the engine cant get rid of all that heat it will preignite or detonate, firing in a cycle other then the power stroke and beating on the rod bearings. Technically you should hear this happening, sounds lightly like a diesel but I never heard anything no did I see anything on the scanner while driving around for 6 weeks. So I'm still in a wonder of what happened.

I'll tell ya that I've never run hotter than 210 F, even pushing real hard on the street. At Waterford, after about 3 laps I was running 240 F, which stayed stable but I had my concerns about it going higher. I was pushing it hard just like you were and carring hi rpm into the turns (heck, everywhere on the track for that matter).

Running a 4 Core, restrictor flange instead of thermostat, stock Corvette short shaft water pump, and 185 thermal switch for fan. Like I said, I really was driving the engine hard.

Flintstones, meet the Flintstones...

Funny...I had suggested that we get a midget in the engine bay to get it through the judging lanes!

You should get that one piece of the air dam attached. That would help.

I am surprised that you think you need a bigger radiator. I am running a turbo with the 3800 and the stock cooling system seems to have no trouble in keeping up with it even if the A/C is on, it is 100 degrees outside, and I am sitting in traffic. My coolant temps have never gone above 205 degrees F.

You weren't running NOS on the stock 3800 SC pistons were you? If so, you are a bad little boy. Better step up to the $899 coated forged units available from intense if you want to spray.

My coolant temps have never gone above 205 degrees F.

You weren't running NOS on the stock 3800 SC pistons were you? If so, you are a bad little boy. Better step up to the $899 coated forged units available from intense if you want to spray.

NO they are not stock pistons.............actually they are the forged pistons from Diamond Racing..................and I have only run NOS once a while back. My fitting broke off the fuel regulator so I couldnt even run NOS

oh, my bad. well good luck on your next buildup, the 3800 has awesome power potential. If it can be made to go 10s in a FWD grand prix, it will go at least that fast in a Fiero.
