SOMEWHERE...I've seen a picture of the nosebadge....maybe a concept badge. It used a different font than that one. I know Reality (Anthony) has used the font I saw in some of his artwork.
Edit...here's MinnGreen's sigpic. If you look at the top lefthand corner, you'll see a rendering of the badge that I saw a pic of. I STILL can't remember where I saw it at...maybe the Witzenburg book???

That is close, but the "Fiero" font is all wrong. The '90 was going to have an all new font, sort of slanted with some of the letters in "Fiero" connected.
It's hard to describe accurately, I have a pic of the emblems for the '90 (both base coupe and GTP) saved someplace on my hard drive, but I haven't been able to find them yet.
Look closely at these Doug Kinney quarter windows, the word Fiero on these windows is in the correct 1990 Fiero font:
I know it's hard to see in this pic, but it's the best pic I've found so far that shows the font used in the emblem.

Dale, that is the same nose badge I had on my car for the show only Fiero is an orange color the rest of it is black with the chorme backing and the other one I have is all red with chrome. I will post some pictures ths weekend but I know there were people taking pictures of it on Saturday. I have a small write up on how I got it in this thread... https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/031826.html
This brings some light to were they came from....

Thanks Dale for the picture post. Here is what I know of this badge. 1 It was made by Dott Industries in Michigan, they make many of GM's badges [check ther web site]. 2 they were in a safe that was being cleaned out at Dott and a Friend and fellow Fiero owner was given them when they asked him if he had a Fiero and said yes. The safe was being cleaned out and they were going into the trash if he was not there to get them [good thing he was there!]. 3 he was told by the MFG [so I trust the info] they were 1990 Fiero emblems the went unused went the car was discontinued. 4 The chrome badge you see here is the one I installed on my car. My Friend has the all black badge with red Horse and white Fiero at the top on his 1987 GT. If you look at the Pictures the 1990 coupes in the Fiero book and the picture of the 3 coupes on the Pontiac back lot on the net they have the black and red badges on them. I have not see a picture of the chrome one use so It may have just been a proposal? 5 Other than the colors both badges are the same. 6 they mount with a stud and have a post identical to the stock badges. They are the size of the 1986 and up badge or just a slight bigger than the 1984/85. 7 The horse and lettering is raised on each badge. 8 It is unknown how many are in public hands, I would not be suprised if a few made it out of Dott after they were canceled. Since this info came from the MFG vendor I would trust what they have to say but I would like to get a member of the Fiero design team to clarifiy what I have. Too many people take info hook line and sinker and get incorrect info floating around [like the 1990 GTP was crushed!] I am working on getting an inside line to GM and the show cars and also how to contact some of the folks who worked on the cars to see if I can get more info and verification on what I have. If I get GM info to back up the vendor who was suppling GM I will pass along the info. Dale you might want to post the black badge too, it is very sharp and it is the one I think they were going to use [at least I have seen it pictured on a 1990 Fiero coupe]. The Fiero owner who got these from the MFG may be at the Pontiac show at Norwalk in Aug. He may beable to give more details. I will have my car there if anyone would like to see what the badge looks like.

Thanks Dale! This black and red badge is pictured on the 1990 coupe clay model on page 61 of Collectible Autombile April 1994. this same story has many of the 1990 features we just learned of like the 3.4 dohc V6 engine mentioned. Also a larger picture of this badge appeares on page 155 of the book Cars that Never Were by The Auto Editors of Consumer Guide ISBN 0-7853-0685-4 is the book number but it may be out of print [E bay? it worht getting for the size of all the Fiero pictures]. Also if anyone has seen the pictures of the 3 coupes on the Pontiac back lot, they have the same badges in the red and black. also if you look at the back of the car the graphics were the same squared off as they are on these badges. I don't know if they would have made the final cut but they were at least used as prototype proposals.

Suppossedly these emblems were smuggled out of a GM design center when the Fiero project was canned.
The two on the top are nose badges and the big one on the bottom is the decklid badge that would have been on the notchback coupes.

The story I have on these is close to yours Ken. I heard that a new person assigned a seat in the GM Design Center found these in a drawer at his new desk. How do I know this? I own these emblems now. They were at the 20th show, and I was going to display them, BUT due to the lack of security in the area that they were going to be shown in, I decided against it.
Ken - if you want to see these "live", I can bring them to Zinns.

(P.S. - I don't like the font on the 90 prototype decklid emblem (on the backing paper earlier in the thread)... I like this 'all-capital' font *much* better...)

Ohh HOLLY CRAP! I GOT TO HAVE THAT! Where can I get that? I'll pay! I'll pay out of my ass for that!
Subtle. I'll bet car salesmen love you.
Seriously, though, that IS a beautiful logo. I'd buy a few myself, even if I didn't put them on my car. Can't decide which color scheme I like better. I'd probably get one of each. It's much prettier than the "90" logo. I don't care for the lower case font much.

Hmmmm.. Any way to convince you to make a mold of one? There's some stuff (called "Sculpy" or something like that around here in art stores) that's like clay, and you make whatever shape you want of it, then bake it into a really hard substance. If the emblem is waxed up a bit (or maybe thin plastic wrap over it??), you could press a block of the stuff against it, and make a quick mold of it... Then at least we could make them out of Resin and paint them.. Probably wouldn't be able to get the chrome look, but they could be painted to look good! Or if someone's good at carving, they could do the same and design one from scratch then take a mold... Just a thought! I saw your badge at the show, and thought it was awesome!

Thanks Proud88GT for posting the pictures! They look great! They are identical to the one on my car. It is neat that all four are diffrent colors, I would guess they were doing diffrent colors to propose to Pontiac? Im sure someone could resen cast these but you would have to paint them in. Proud88GT was yours black on back like mine? The ones like ours look to be injected molded from 2 different plastics. I would guess they were not cheap to make like these were made. Anyone else seen any like these anywhere? Im glad I had the pictures posted! Makes you wonder what else is out there? I am still tring to get more info and I will pass it along if and when I find out.

did anyone think of donating a logo to the 90 Prototype so it does not have that trans-am logo on it? I mean the inside had Fiero logos but the nose didnt.

Mitchel thanks for posting the pics of my emblems for me. hyperv6 check my thread above from a couple a days ago and the link explaining how I came to get the two emblems. Also thanks for the info on the MFG of these pieces, I knew these had to be made for the car when I first saw them...Craig
Fierokid87, I thought the same thing when I was at the 20th but for what, so GM can put the car back in the warehouse and let us beg them to see it again in five years or what if they decide to crush it. At least we know who has them now and they can be seen more often this way...Just my thoughts on it...

You have a point. Its just too bad that we cant have some sort of "Fiero Historical Society" that can preserve the existing prototypes for future generations to look at and enjoy.

Smoooooth .... we were thinking of making your Fiero into the time capsule .... It would seem it stays in place at all times with no chance of the "general" public ever mauling over it !!!
Sorry Dude ... I couldn't resist ... LMAO

Thanks for taking the time to hunt me down an show me the this emblem. It was nice talking to you. Being a nameplate guy and working for a company competing against Dott, I can tell you again that it is a high quality part. The chrome portion is molded plastic, that electro-chrome plated with copper, nickel, & chrominum. Then they can come back and "2nd Shot" the red plastic filling. Not cheap to make or tool up (Thousands for tooling) I thought you told me you got it at a flea market....what a steal!
A urethaned, automotive grade domed decal would run under would be considerably cheaper. You would probably need to commit to a 1,000 piece minimum order for either and there are the trademark / copyright issues. Jeff

I have a Email in to Dott. The first two picture were ones they had in a safe they were cleaning out. I might get some info I might not, it is worth a shot.
Well I sent the pictures and a request for any info they could provide to Dott Industries last week. I just recieve a reply that they will look into any info they still have and will get back to me soon. I was glad they just blow this off. I will post the info they pass along to me as soon as I receive it. Craig, if you foward me your E mail address I will send you what info they send me to authenticate our badges. I can be reached at hyperv6@msn.com. hope to post soon!
