We have all seen Fiero GT40 kits, from the somewhat misshapen simple body kits to Archies accurate, but far more involved, one-of. But what about the other sports racers of the 60s such as the Ferrari LMs, the Lolas, the Chapparals (sp), Porsche 904 etc.. (feel free to ad to this list) Or even some early 70s machines like the Lancia Stratos.

second view:
This is just one of these great cars. How about a modified or rebodied Fiero using some of the elements of these design (The Warber hood is already one example). I am not talking about a replica, but a theme car which captures the essence of these designs.
Fiero5 has built a theme car in the form of Jordan's "Fast and Furious", since it has captured the look of the "tuner cars". No rice cracks please, like it or not, it does work as a theme piece. I would like to see someone work on hoods and side scoops and rear decks which will evoke the style of these old racers. I suggest that a coupe would be preferable since the GT is a little too "modern" for this activity.
Well, any takers? I can't afford to work on a project like this but I would be happy to make design suggestions and sketches.
Well, is this of interest or will this thread die? I promise I will not bump it back if it dies.
Those are good ideas with the theme style kit car concepts, but ideas come easy. I tried myself to develope and build a fiero based kit car with the Enzo Ferrari look. But I don't have $10,000 for a cnc machine and $50,000 for the R$D. Molds are the most expensive items to make. I guess that is why some kit car companies will buy the molds from someone else who has already spent the money on the R&D. Just my 2 cents.
I am not talking about a body kit as such, if you look at cars by Fiero5, Skitime, revin, Kameo Kid, GT-X and others you will see what can be done with a little ingenuity. Body kits are expensive to develop and to purchase, but smaller components which can go together to create the theme can be cheap and adaptable (like Mustang scoops, Dodge Shadow wings and hood vents from all over).
Details like this from the Ferrari 250LM:
,or this Chaparral:
,or this from the Lotus type 47 (Europa was the street version):
, or this from the later type 62:
or this Porsche 904:
Or these neat scoops and mirrors on a Ferrari 250LM:
Lets just take the theme and put together the bits and pieces to get the "look". Note that this works best with 14" or 15" wheels and taller tires (60 series instead of ultra low profiles on larger wheels) so that will keep some of the costs down.
Sorry, this is not a bump, it is a response
Ira

Sorry, but the roof/window treatment on that Ferrari is extreamly ugly

The tiny doors, due to the inline V12 taking up so much space, is awkward, but the overall shape is quite similar to the Fiero, except for the beautiful curved windshield.

So, I lied Thought I would give it one push to see if anyone had any ideas for adding some prototype racer details to a Fiero. The Warber style hood is one item, and I have a set of 1970s Firebird TA fender air extractors that I am looking for ideas for (I already have a vented hood so I was thinking about using them to create Z06 style brake cooling vents for the rear quarters.
Any ideas?
Ira

I have seen this on a car on this forum, looked good.

Just use Google, choose images and search for Lotus Europa, you should get lots of pictures. I have only seen one Europa, up close. It was the first series car and I was only about 15 at the time. I remember standing on the side walk next to it, staring down at it and marvelling at how compact and beautiful it was. That may have been the event which made me want a mid engine car.
Ira
OK how about this Lotus 47?
and this Europa:

Well it has been done. There was one At Fierorama this past weekend. I know someone has a picture of it. It looked just like the real thing. when it pulled up we told the guys that this was a fiero show and that he would have to park his car on the side... But to our surprise he told us it was a fiero and he wanted to enter it in the show. I will find some pictures.
Hey Ira , BMW's 1978 M1 . Look's amazeingly like a Fiero . So much so that I feel that Pontiac had a long hard look at this BMW when formulateing the Fiero . There are some pictures of the M1 in the September 2003 issuse of " Automobile " magazine .

Now there's a beautiful car. I agree; it would be a great re-body.

All those cars you named/pictured have had kits that I have personally seen. The only one is the original BMW M1. Ive seen the real ones around (although rare) reasonably cheap. Just like Lotus Esprit, why make the kit when the real one can be had for under $15K. Few of my favs you didnt mention were the Ferrari 250 California Spyder (Ferris Beuler) and the 62-63 Ferrari 250 GTO. Both of these do have avail kits. The GTO is built on a tube frame or a Datsun 240-280Z donor and they look really authentic. I came close to buying one at carlisle a few years ago for less than $10K. An original 62 GTO owner got an offer in my FORZA (Ferrari Owners Magazine) for $14,700,000.00 and turned it down. (no typo, that is million)
