I had a good day at the track today: R/T .111 60' 1.819 330 5.041 1/8 7.735 MPH 91.17 1000 10.068 1/4 12.055 MPH 113.19
I got my IC working again and headed to the track today. I'm happy with my latest runs, the car needs new tires, 10% tread P6000's just doesn't cut it. My first run some guy came up and told me I must have been spinning half way down the track. I think it was more like a quarter of the track, but it was way too far. I can only launch it from an idle and I still have to roll the throttle. I know with some decent tires I could get at least 2-3 more tenths out of it. When I was able to get it to grab, I felt all the blood leave my face, what a rush!
Good job! I knew there was alot of room for improvement! And yet you have farther to go! 60 foot can be better, and with that mph you should have an easy 11 sec car!!

Sweet! Keep up the good work, and of course updates are always appreciated. With that kind of motor, you should just get a dedicated set of wheels and drag tires for the track!
I was thinking once you're in the 11s you have to have a roll cage...is that true, or is it 10s? I know it's somewhere in there.

Drag slicks would be nice, but I'd like to run the car in street trim. I would like to give slicks a try sometime.
You need a roll bar at 11.99 and faster and a roll cage a 10.99 and faster. You bring up a good point though, I really don't feel like putting in a roll bar right now, maybe next season.

I agree, with some decent set of tires, 11's would have happened today (Then I would have gotten kicked out ). I did have one 1.77 60' not much better, but a little. I would like to launch the car around 1800 RPM or so, but not going to happen without tires. New tires more than likely will not happen this season.... no $$$.

LMK if you decide you need a rollbar. Got a place here locally here. (They do pretty much anything ... From an 11.99 legal bar up to the brand new NHRA/SFI 25.5 spec) And they actually like Fieros.

Can you please post the info, I sure I'll need it sooner than later. I'm interested in how much it would cost. I think my car just decided it needs one.

Nice going !!! I'm having a lot of problems with my PCM or I would have been there... I should be there OCT 10th for the last sport compact day. Did you smoke some rice burners???
I also want to know what tranny Tim Gully is using..
I think he is using a 5 speed and stock everything else. I think he had a damn nice time for a stock 3800!

Thanks! There was no "rice burners" in the King of the Hill Class (12.999 and faster), so I guess I "smoked" all of them.
Sorry to hear about you PCM problems, I have one word (acronym) for you... "ODBII"!

But hey you'll get your car running and life will be good.
You have any wheels and tires sitting around that I could borrow/rent for my next track day?

OBDII never. Darth will fix me up and it will be off to the races. I heard from a friend at work it was a really dead day there at the track.
When I get an ICCU you going to wish you were using OBDII. But seriously I hope you get your car running. Give me a call if you are going to the track and I'll try to make it.

FANTASTIC times there MN3800!!! I knew if you got some better 60 foots you'd see definite improvements. Try this the next time you go.
When you stage...hold the brake as hard as you can. Rev the motor to 2000 RPM. Hopefullly the brakes hold. You can test how high of a RPM the brakes can take. I can hold mine at 1800-2000 when the brakes are cool. On the last yellow let go of the brake and let the car roll for a "one" count. Then punch it. This is how i usually get my best 60 foots without spinning too too bad. May chug the tires a lil but not a whole lot of spinning.
By the way what pulley were you using and how much boost were you seeing?
13.033 in a STOCK SC3800?? That has to be the FASTEST stock 3800 out there. I ran 13.4 when stock and I think Hugh ran 13.14. Thats cool! You need to make a seperate thread on that one!

Very impressive Lyle. Id love to compare mods with you and see how that intercooler compares to the supercooler. You should definately see 11's soon, and Im happy to see someone on my heels, that is interested in continuing modding and making it fast. Im shooting for 10s soon, but who knows.

Next time I'm at the track with better tires I'll try it. I've never tried that method with the one count in there, but otherwise I do the same. That is before my cam, intercooler, 2.8 pulley round of mods anyway. Thanks for the tip! I think it would spin even with that method and these tires.
I'm using a 2.8" Tri collet pulley and I'm seeing about 9-10 lbs of boost.

Not to steal the thread, MN3800, but too lazy to start my own. also, I smelled a little antifreeze when you left. You may want to check for leaks.
Rare87, I run my stock my8 muncie 4 spd.
I'll keep an eye on it, but I'm sure it's just spilled coolant. I spilled quite a bit of coolant down the side and back of the motor when I was filling the intercooler.
Thanks

Great Job,isn't it fun running those 3800's?You should get in the 11's with your set up with a little traction .I'm going to Byron Dragway this Sunday, the Illonios Grand Prix Club is going to be there and it's always fun running with all those 3800's.If you can, come on over and have a good time.I'm hoping to run the mid 11's with mine???.
