Okay it's me.....Madcurl

I'd talked to Ian (the owner of Car Excess) today 1:49 PM pacific time.

As most know, Car Excess are the only Company that performed the VDC or lambo doors for The Silver Choptop.

The VDC is a patented DECAH.

Car Excess is a authorized company that "MODIFIES" the original DECAH kit.

DECAH is the company that supplies the VDC kit to Car Excess and is therefore authoried to Modify the DECAH VDC without any patended infringments.

Now that out of the way...heres the BIG NEWS!

The kit that Decah offers for $1299 on thier web page IS NOT A DIRECT BOLT ON FOR THE PONTIAC FIERO.

Car Ex Excess sell the MODIFIED Decah VDC kit for the Fiero for $1899, extra for installation.

If you buy the DECAH VDC kit for $1299, IT WELL NOT BE A DIRECT BOLT ON. This kit is a HONDA kit, which can be modified to FIT A FIERO.
IF YOU DONT HAVE THE SKILLS TO MODIFY THE DECAH KIT...DONT BUY IT!

The additional cost from Ian would be $1300 to modifiy (it) to fit the Fiero.
However, if you buy the Decah VDC and send it to CAR EXCESS it WOULD BE MORE THAN THE ORIGINAL COST IF YOU HAD BOUGHT IT FROM CAR EXCESS.

$1299 + 1300= $2599. Thats close to $600 bucks more. Taking the kit to some skilled fabricator might be less?

This cost is +/- if you've haven't jack'd up the Fiero after you realize it aint worth messing with DECAH'S original kit.

This thread is not inflame others.....I'm just tring to state the facts here. I talk to Ian, Noah, and company just about every day at their work, home and thier pagers.

Opppps, & I was so looking forward to watching the build up thread on those doors.

Good thing someone didn't just jump in there and copy that kit.

Has anyone talked to FieroRumor to see what he has to say about it? I'd be interested to know if if bought the Decah kit knowing that it was not a direct bolt on.

*sighs deeply*

When I spoke to Carexcess, it sounded like they took the Decah "universal" one, and then made the proper holes in it.

When I spoke to Decah, they said the universal one will fit, after I made the holes.

So now, I hope that after seeing a few pics that Madcurl will hopefully provide, I will be able to see how it was installed, and make the proper holes, and other modifications. What I wonder is, what additional "fitting" did CarExcess do in order to make it fit the Fiero? Is it more extensive then drilling holes?

Either they do modify the Decah kit, by bending or welding stuff for 600 bucks, or they charge 600 bucks to make 16 holes.

I didn't realize that carExpress sold a "bolt-on Fiero kit" for 1899. I thought it was just the Decah universal kit with the proper holes drilled out...

I don't want this to get ugly, hope this all gets sorted out... I wasn't trying to "cheap out"...and not trying to piss off any companies...

FieroRumer, the kit that you have for $1299 is a orginal kit thats offered for a Honda (I forgot which one). It can be used to fit the Fiero but! with modifications. When I talked to Ian @ Car Excess, he didn't give me any indications that it was easy and that it "just" involved some 16 drilled holes.

When Car Excess first fitted the Decah kit onto the Fiero, it was a test fit to see what altercations was needed. After the second time Ian wasn't too happy with the clearance of the door when their completly vertical, so they changed something to increase the over-all height.

That alone involved something which I don't know the correct answer right now. Remember it's surpose to be a "kit' that one can remove and use the original hardware. If your drilling additional holes or using the orginal holes by making them bigger.....then how is the "kit" a kit that one can remove and re-install the original hardware?

The best thing I would do FieroRumer is too stop what you are doing and call and speak to Ian (the owner) and get the facts. Otherwise your'll traveling in Uncharted territory. $1299 is cheaper vs. $1899 but IMO it's not worth it. Car Excess number is listed on Mr. Mikes web page.

Oh Yeah, when I asked Ian about Decah giving refunds? he didn't know....so don't mess the kit up! Send that sucker back and get your money or credit card refunded. Provided you havn't started hacking on it?

And FieroRumer.......I'm not stating that your not skilled or cheap by getting the orginal Decah kit instead of Car Excess's. Heck I too would have gotten it for $1299 for my next choptop VDC.
