I've seen the PISA kit on several cars/sites. Does anyone have a different digital dash setup (i.e. Dakota Digital)?

The Cimmeron dash WILL not work. I have tried it on two seperate occasions( one didnt work correctly). The dash uses the communication line to send vital information (voltage, tach and something else ) to the cluster. I tried it and connected it to the correct line at the dlc and it wouldn't operate correctly. It may work on a 3800 swap due to the different operating system of that computer. It is a very cool looking dash, and it was what I was looking for, I even mounted it in a Fiero dash bezel, and mocked it up but it just plain wouldnt work. Sorry to be a fly in the ointment.

I was searching the yahoo photo albums again and found this. Seems pricey but this place makes custom digital dashes.

I wish I had the time to build them... They are for both the 6-cyl and 4-cyl. There are three buttons in the center console with which you can control the settings of the dash. I have set mine to display an odometer in the left lower display and 24h time in the right. You can choose between: odometer, clock, avg. speed, triptime, inside/outside temp or OFF.

Other settings: Acceleration time (ON/OFF), Engine Type (V6/L4), Units (US/Europe), Analog Display (Normal, Reversed, Inverted, Point, OFF) etc.

Sure I can power it up for you, I gotta dig it out. (Litterally, cars buried in a snowbank) I'll try to get pics posted when I get off of work. Hey if someone figures out a way for the pcm to communicate with this cluster, I'd be happy to pay$$ for that info. It is a really cool dash. Much better than the z-24. Jason

I tought the Cimmarons had same 2.8 engine as the Fiero. Is the ECM different?

Appears to be, I have the schematics to the Cimmeron and know what goes where and it was wired correctly. Only a few items worked on the cluster though These were the ones that had there own senders (Ie: fuel, oil, temp, and outside temp) Now that I think of it I don't think the temp worked either I think it was bussed over the comm network to the cluster. I still have to dig it out.

The Beretta dig cluster is similar to the caddy unit in that it relies on the serial data line from the ECM to supply it with tach info. Problem is with both the Beretta and Caddy dash, even if you are using the right ECM for the dash, the chip program determines what information, if any, is to be sent across the data line for the dash to read. For instance, I had a digital dash from a 1993 Cutlass Supreme. The only gauge that used the serial data for an input was the Tach. Well, my Friend had a 92 Lumina with the same engine tried hooking this cluster up in his car but the tach would still not work. I have looked at some of the stock programming for these computers using these digital clusters and indeed, there are a couple of data parameters in there that have special settings that "tell" the ECM to send the appropriate data to the cluster.

Is it possible to interchange the ECM from the Cimmaron with the Fiero without changing out the engine wire harness, and run the correct wires from the ECM to the inst cluster? If you can find a cimmaron in a local junk yard, it may be doable...

I second that! In fact Cliff if you would sell the schematics / code if it is microprocessor controlled, I would be willing to pay you royalties on each one made. I have the ablitity to have circuit boards made also this would simplify the assembly process. Let us know if you want manufacturing partners.

I've been wondering...My moms '90 GMC Jimmy has a pretty cool digital dash. Actually, the whole dash is similar to the fiero dash, with the switches around it and everything. I think its about the same size too. The Jimmy is a V6 also, though its a Vortec. Anyone know if this cluster would work (if I were able to find another one.)?

Here's the pics I promised.

This one is of the cluster powering up and going thru the self check.

This is afterwards.

I really don't think that would work, as the engines although are the same displacement, have different operating systems (Ie: distributer. Coil pack). Unless someone knows something I don't.

Any questions Id be happy to try to answer.

Heh... Hehe.... Be carefull what you wish for.. I thought it would be a good idea (and make some $$ for both Oliver and I) to reproduce the HUD's.. Once in a while I sell one, and get a little closer to breaking even, but it's taking a lot longer than was expected. (Due to credit card interest rates, it takes even longer) The HUD from start to finish takes like 1 hour to build, and it's got waay less parts to it than Cliff's dash, if I remember seeing the correct pictures of it. I know why Cliff doesn't have the time to build them! That said, if there were a way to make that dash available, I'm sure there would be dozens of people that would want one! How many would dig up the $$$ for it in the end, that's the big question.. Circuit boards are cheap in bulk, but if you get stuck with 200 boards, and no buyers, you've got problems. I can build 200 HUD's and 400 power supplies with the boards I have. Anyone want a 5v power supply? As for the original topic, I believe the Cavalier dash swap has been the most successfull, most often done dash. Looks pretty good too, but in Green.

I appreciate your input! I have a good contact with a circuit board manufacturer and only the first board is expensive. I also do not have to deal with minimum orders either. I do not what to make money off of this or any other projects. I just what to help fellow Fiero owners get cool things for the rides! I have been messing around with my own digital guages and thought why reinvent the wheel, if Cliff wants sell or share. By the way how much do you want for the HUD unit. Also, how good does it work? Pics?

Dakota Digital are pretty cool, but a tad expensive because you need the actual gauge and sending unit. They are easy to calibrate the speed to match wheel/tire changes, and they look pretty cool. They are VERY expensive if you choose to go with a custom interior and dash around them.

They get a big thumb's up with quality and customer service as well.

The digital dash by PISA looks nice, but pretty spendy.

The car that I am going to try to put my 89 Beretta dash in has a 94 Cutlass 3100SFI in it, including the Cutlass ECM. I am hoping the digital signal will be able to be used by the gauge unit.

Here's a pic of the Z-24 install in mine after attempting the Cimmeron install ( I haven't given up on it yet), The wires are custom installed into connectors so I can remove it If I want, that's why it looks like a mess.
