i am looking at buying this kit to make my doors the lambo style... i was wondering if anyone has installed his kit? anyone hear anything bad about them? also, has anyone had any problems with them? any helpful hints on installing Thanks Jason
Someone PLEASE chime in here who has actually INSTALLED this kit...I have yet to see anyone on here who has. it didn't seem like a simple "bolt on" kit.
I'm VERY happy with the Decah kit. Does the Street Dreams one have any pistons or something to assist you opening and closing the doors? Sorry, I'm not too familiar with the kit, other then the few pics and the vide I have seen...
I just don't want you to buy it, then find out it's crapp-o.
I give them props for making it though!

Well... I've never actually chimed in on these topics before (we all want to have our secrets & surprises - ya' know) - but I can add some insight here.
The SD Door kit (now retailing for $750 + S&H) is an extremely fine build quality, and Ross (the owner of SD) is totally willing to help anyone who's interested. But the install is no "bolt-on" process, nor is it simple. You basically have to reshape & rebuild the A-Piller to match the needed mounting points. This kit does not open the doors like a Decah kit... which swings the door out normally, then up - instead it just has a direct angular pivot (and oddly enough the stock striker & latch mechanism still work fine - I asked). I even spoke extensively with Ross at the 20th... as he was there "incognito"
I'm also not aware of any other members who have purchased this kit - much less installed it on a car (other than Ross's own prototype car - the red coupe we've all seen).
The reason I know this stuff? I've got the kit sitting in my garage right now... I purchased it early last year with the full intention of installing it, but I now realize that I don't have the funds or resources available right now to start, much less finish this project (new house back in December of '02, buying a new "winter/driver car today", etc). I've had two other local people interested in buying the kit from me at a reduced price (basically what I'd get back from SD if I returned it) - but unfortunately neither of those deals have worked out for different reasons.
That being said, I'm looking to either sell the kit to another PFF member in the next couple of days - or I'm going to have to return it to SD - as I really need the cash now. Everything is still in it's original packing - and I've got a number of close-up photos that Ross has asked not be shared publicly that detail some of his install that I can also provide to a buyer. I'm looking to get $600 ASAP - like I said, otherwise it'll be going back the first part of next week.
Dang Rob, I don't want to hear that you are not going to install these on your sweet GT... We need a sweet GT with the SD's on there in order to get Ross's hinges to start selling...
I wish I was able to buy these from you as I think these would just top off SmoothGT!
Don't you think it would look sweet with these on mine..?? (better say yes.. hehe)
There's no way to be able to keep these..?? I mean you have held on to these for a good amount of time as it is... Good Luck with whatever you are able to do..
Steve

Steve... yeah I've been dreaming of getting these done since Ross first put up the pics of the Red coupe he did. They'd be awesome. I really did want to have them done, and done right to properly represent the SD system, but the resources just aren't there.

No, I just can't justify leaving $750 worth of top-grade machined parts laying around my garage until a big chunk-o-change falls into my lap. I've still got some bodywork & paint to finish in the next month, as well as a V8 that needs to be rebuilt and installed soon. Just too many projects to sit on that kind of "inventory". Thanks for the well-wishes!

Dang, Steve, put them on SmoooooothGT! Now, to build up the capital to get 'em...Are you against selling your body for money? I know it's yucky at first, but it gets easier after awhile. Just think of a happy place.
Works for me!
Getting those doors hurt my wallet a bit more then I figured... :P
(Just can't wait till I can sit down again...)
Help! I'm bored, and in the middle of PC migrations! (WIN NT ----> Win XP)

FieroRumor, they were $1,200. right? And did you need to spend any more to do anything? I guess I could go back and scroll thru your post but it might be easier to just get the answer here I am seriously thinking of getting these but I want to make sure that for that kind of serious cash outlay that we won't have to spend tons of time and more money trying to make them work.
Oh yeah, I'm doing the same thing myself right now, but from Win 2000 to XP. Windblows doesn't suck, it blows LOL

I am installing the Decah kit on my GT. There is probably an easier way to do it, but I am making extensive modifications to it so I can go back to stock doors if need be, and so it uses the existing bolt holes.

I think it'll end up being about 800-1000 bucks. They did a LOT of extra things I didn't think they were going to do, they painted the hinges, they soldered all the connectors instead of crimping them, and I'm having them re-tint the windows.
Should look great when they are done with it... :P
In another thread, someone mentioned that Car Excess has raised their Fiero-specific kit prices from the initial $1900 to $2300... which Rumor stated was about what he spent for the entire thing Suddenly $600 for my SD - DIY kit doesn't seem like too much... for someone who has the skills or resources to Do It Themselves

For what it's worth, I plan to offer the modified Decah kit as a bolt in installation for the Fiero. Target price is $1600 or less. That's a lot more than the SD kit, but less than the Car Excess kit.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to reply, I was outside picketing. I would suggest you
just hit the "Ask MinnGreenGT" button at the top of the page..., but it looks like he already did it automatically!
(He IS the Linkmaster!)
All in All, It cost about $2,400 --- Kit, supplies, paint, installation, tinting, stuff from Staples, and muffler bearings.
