Well folks....finally got the time to make some progress on my V8 project. From here on out I'm going to try and do at least a little each day. Yes - I WILL drive it this year damn it! So here are some pics for your viewing enjoyment.
I got home today from work at 4:00PM and the motor was out by 6:55PM. Not too shabby for a one man operation! Elvira lent a helping hand till she decided to head butt the cherry picker - OUCH!!! - can you say STARS ...anyway...here we go...
Before I could start I had to put my drop spindles back in. Did that this past weekend.
The mad mechanic ready to rip 'er a new one!
What a mess - all disconnected
Hooking up the hoist

Don't forget to remove the slave cylinder before dropping the craddle. That's how I kinked my clutch line. I just saw in the new picture that you did remove it. Are you going to put that engine in Elvira's Blue car?

We have had a couple of people ask about the red poly "cups" on the tie rod ends, etc. We got them from Suspension Restoration Parts in Modesto, CA. Their web addy is www.suspension.com and their # is: (209)587-5101. Part # was 9-13101 Red, just in case anyone else is looking for them!

It is 11'x20'x11'. We got it at BJ's for $360. It has a large zipper door on one side and a velcro back side. It has galvanized steel poles. It was very easy to set up, but you need to make sure it is anchored down really well if you live in a windy area!

It survived last winter without any problems we are actually going to get a couple of florescent lights to mount on the poles that run along the top. We used cinder blocks and a nail gun to anchor it. The pole bottoms have holes on all 4 corners of every base so you can use a nail gun or some type of nail spikes to anchor them. It gets really windy up here and so far, knock on wood, we have had NO problems with it. We have it up next to our garage door and we are going to join the garage and the porti-garage together with a large tarp so we will be able to go between the two even in the rain so we can get the Dirty Rat done so mine can get in there as she is getting the V6 we just pulled out. It works great! Plenty of room.

Well, didn't accomplish much yesterday but like I said, I did do a little. Ripped all the insulation out of the engine compartment. To my surprise there is minimal rust for me to deal with. I'll be scrubbing the compartment and coating with POR-15 to kill any rust that is there and protect from any future development. Then I'm lining the compartment with Thermo-Tec insulation. Anyway, time to go to hell, oh I mean work. Catch you tonight for another update!
