i finally got a chance to borrow a digi and get some pics of my daily. she is a 1985 fiero 2m4 SE automatic, with 211,940 miles on the clock and ever-climbing.

mods include: 4 corner KYB struts, grand am brakes on the rear only, sequential turn signals, custom painted interior, and exterior, 550 watt jensen amp with 10" sub and 6x9" speakers in the dash location, jensen cd/cassette/am/fm head unit, white face guages, manual shift boot on an auto with better looking shifter, and i know I'm for getting something but I'll add it later.

i run a disconnected EGR valve, with timing set to approximately 12* BTC, and fresh plugs every 6K-9K miles. i have a new borg warner nascar select coil.

near future mods: open air cleaner element, dodge shadow spoiler, and new paint!

How did you go about installing 6x9's in the stock 4x10 location? I'm entertaining ideas for different replacements for the 4x10's.

You told me last night that you used dupli color fusion to do that car. I am wanting to do the same thing to my 84 coupe. It's not like I'm trying to get that car to be show worth. I'm just getting the car modded up and good looking enough so people will be willing to buy it.

Mark

P.S. I'll look for you online sometime later, kevin. I know you said you're moving. So I'll see ya around.

yea, but i had to go through hell to get it to be reliable for me. i bought her on july 28, 2001 at 189,000 miles. durring these last 23,000 miles i have had many problems tha would have made any sane owner sell it a long time ago! including, but not limited to: cracked cyl head(which i replaced in my driveway); dead water pump resulting in the cracked head; fire resulting from the replacement of the head; alternator dying while i was no my first date with my first(and only) girlfriend, we were 30 miles from home too; i have had 3 starters die on me; numerous overheats; dead brakes on a few occasions(should the pedal hit the floor when you try to stop?); and i bet your either thinking that i am crazy/stupid/insane, or your bored, so im done. ask me for more info. i dare ya.

I hear you, I picked up an 85 base coupe for free at 138,000 miles.. BUT here's what she needed in the past 10,000 miles:

mechanicallly: 5-spd tranny rebuilt, new clutch, ignition module replaced, new slave cylinder, spark plugs/wires, air filter, will need new brake pads soon, engine is solid although it does poof some white smoke at start up sometimes - perhaps I'll dump some engine restore in the car (or something that will restore the valve seals), she's also going to need a coolant flush...

cosmetically: new hood, new wheels/tires, new aero front/rear bumpers/side skirts, new paint, dual exhaust added

here she is:

ps: I like that your car is wingless/rackless, I think it makes the car look sleeker.

i allready have a shadow spoiler that will go on when i have the time. i love the look of it.

with all the mechanical crap i've had to fix, i havent had much time or money to put into cosmetics. other wise it dowould look different/better. although when i got her she was 100% rundown bone stock, so i have made some changes.

the way i see it, with the engine in the trunk i have to look at it all the time, so i want it to be clean. i keep a shop towel back there, and wipe down the air cleaner and rocker cover and other stuff 3 or 4 times a week.

If that puff of blue smoke at startup is your duke's only problem, then it's fairly easy to correct with the engine in the car. Don't bother with magic potions - new seals is what it wants.

Parts needed: FelPro SS72531 valve stem seal set and FelPro VS50179R rubber valve cover gasket. These parts should be around $15 at your local parts store.

Tools needed: Valve spring compressor - the small knob-operated one that works with the head on, and a method for keeping the valves from dropping into the cylinder. Some advocate stuffing a rope in the spark plug hole to stop them from dropping - I prefer the spark plug adapter that connects to compressed air to pressurize the cylinder and hold the valves up.

You can probably borrow / rent the spring compressor from the parts store. The whole job can be done in an afternoon...
