Well I finally did it, I got Sara interested in Fieros, and what’s more she wants one for her self. So we are trying to see what we can get that meets what she wants and what we can afford. Maybe you guys can lend us an hand and point us in the right direction. She wants, a Fast back but will take a Notchie. It needs to be a royal to light metallic blue (paint needs to be shiny with no rust, shed rather it looks good then run good). Interior should be in decent shape (a few rips in the seat, a crack in the dash all acceptable). It has to be an auto (she refuses to learn how to drive a stick). And Shed prefer the I4 (gas prices you know), but the V6 is fine too as long as its in fair running order, a little mechanical work would be fine (good practice for me).
So that’s what she wants. We have a spending limit of 1500, any one know if finding what we want is in our price range/ home range (no more then 1 state away from MI)? We would be looking to buy by the end of next month after we’ve finished moving. Thanks for your help in advance guys.

We have a red 85gt for sale for $1900 (I think) Run decent great interior. Engine bored 40 over all kinds of new parts. But we are in WV that might be too far but we may be able to meet half way. I'll see if I can find pics. I knoow its not exactly what she wants but she may like it. Oh wait its a 4 speed. She really will not learn to drive a stick? So when is she going to join PFF.

It has to be blue... shes dead set on blue. And she refueses to learn to drive a stick... shes going to join when "I have my own pretty car" - her words.
Ya I owe Alayne and Fiero5 for that, she saw Alayne's new Fiero and got all excited and said she wants one just like that... It was the blue that did it... so thats what we are looking for.

Well I would start looking for an 87GT then. It will be hard to find one in that price range. Add to that a Blue 87GT Auto. Hmm how many of those were made maybe 5, and 2 were totalled, 2 were repainted red and the 5 is MIA.
Just kidding. But it will be a streatch. I would keep my eyes open for a blue 87SE auto. You might be able to find one of those.

Best thing to do is ask around town who does it on the side and is good about it. I found 2 guys, 1 I did all the prep work and supplied materials, $300 and the car looked like a friggin mirror. Unfortunately he got to busy to do my second car. The second one had chemicaly bad paint that all had to be removed, re primed and then sprayed. I took all the pannels to my second guy and he did it for $1200. As opposed to $7000 from a bodyshop.
dezie36, I am assuming that this is a good thing that our posting pics of Alaynes new blue '87 was what helped to finally get her interested and wanting a Fiero of her very own? Thats pretty cool. This is another example of someones excitement and enthusiasm spilling over to others
The blue Fieros were only available in '87 so if you see or want a different year model in blue then it will be an aftermarket paint job of course. The thing is that Alayne wasn't even looking for any specific color as she already has her new paint color picked out to get it custom painted. Shhhh, the color she has picked out is awesome but a secret for now I agree that you should first take a look at what is out there for exactly what you want as it looks like you are doing now, and then start looking at other year and models that she would like that have the other options that she wants and then just get an inexpensive blue paint job put on it. I think you will find that unless you get real lucky and find an automatic Fiero in blue and in your stated price range that this would be your next best bet. You should be able to find a nice base model running automatic Fiero for under a grand I would think and then find a good deal on a basic inexpensive paint job somewhere near you as best as you can.

Yes it was a very good thing... only way for me to get 2 fieros was if sara had one... Well I think Ill have to talk her into getting one painted... someone said macco... Ive seen their comercials... do they do the prep work too? or is that extra? She wants a metllic shiny blue.
Local Maaco charged between $700-$1000 for base/clear.
If you just want regular Maaco, probably like $300. Wouldnt be any worse then old factory paint (well... it shouldnt)
Well accept that Maaco uses the cheapest paint avail on the market. The paint has absolutely no lasting power! At least factory if well cared for car last... If you were doing a quicky job to sell the car it would be one thing, but not on a decent car you are going to keep. You will be redoing it in a few years! Plus you would really have to tape things up for them or the whole car would be blue...door handles, moldings, headlights, turnsignals! Its all about time! You do the grunt work...sanding it down, taping it up, and slip the guy a tip, he might get on his knees to spray the gfx decent!
I do agree that they are generally not the "best" place to go... I expect overspray central, but for $300, it's often a good deal.
I had Maaco paint an 87 Celebrity back in 1995. It was the cheapest job i could get. My grandparents still have that celebrity. It's been in the sun for 10 years, and it's still intact.. Granted it's not exactly mirror shiny anymore, but they never wash/wax or clean it either. It's not peeling off, and honestly if they polished it i bet it'd look OK. But again, it's not peeling off, and it beats what it looked like before it was painted.
