Hey guys, Im heading to Yosemite on wednesday (about a 3 hour drive each way) and was wondering if anybody knew of any good photo locations? For example, a place with half dome in the background or something. Any ideas would be a big help, thanks

One of my favorite spots is just at the entrance to the valley from the Arch Rock Entrance. There is a Y split starting the one way road around the valley. As you would leave, after going all the way around, (the left leg of the Y), there are several panoramic views of the meadow/valley with the river as foreground, El Capitan on the left and Half dome in the background. Bridalveil Falls was flowing on the right side. The view is a larger variation of your pic with mentioned items framing the picture. I believe they even had one of the areas marked as a recommended spot which is okay but there is another a little closer to the exit.
Other favorite spots are under Yosemite Falls up against El Capitan. The the lake area under Half Dome. The family & I were out in March of 2000. Record 80 degree temps and very little traffic. It was fabuuuulos! Have fun. Jeff

Damn near any spot you pick it a good place to take a picture, we go there about every other year and its nice. This time of the year there will be plenty of scenary with all the tourist there. I never knew a state park would lure in so many hot chicks, I was suprized.
Beautiful pic. Me and the wife are planning a trip for next year out west. I would love to see Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Redwoods, Grand canyon, and a few other places, I guess we'll have to do it over a few years to see it all.
Great shot, do you have any more?
Earl

It's been a quite a few years since going there but I do remember how wonderful it was to go to Hetch Hetchy Resevoir. Wonderful views, excellent rock formations along the road and a cool tunnel to hike on foot through....

Ok well im im back now and i took quite a few shots. Here are my favorites.
There were a lot of tourists, suprising for a wednesday, so parking was a real pain which is why most of these shots are of the back of the car heh. I got quite a few comments, even from the ranger at the entrance. "What kind of car is this?" with wide eyes. "Very nice!"

As an ex-Cali/Nevada kind of guy who lived in Sacramento, Fresno and Reno, I do recall many fine days bumping around in the backwoods of Yosemite, the Sierra Nevedas and the Desolation Wilderness (on foot). In my opinion, northern and central California have to have the richest selection of spectacular places in the nation. You got it all from purple mountains majesty to shining sea.
I like the shots, makes me sort of homesick. Not only do I miss the mountains, I miss the roads that get you up there. Do you mind if I post one or a few at the World Famous Fiero Photo-Rama (www.fierodriver.com)? By the way if anyone else has Fiero pictures in cool places, drop them of at the World Famous Fiero Photo-Rama. 5 years+ and going strong! Is your car there yet?
Again, great pictures and from experience, I know that photos can only tease you to what Yosemite is all about. It is awesome if you never leave your car, it goes beyond expression if you don a back pack and head to the trails!
P.S. Please, no flaming for opinion, I just love Northern Cali and the mountains in particular. I have also lived in Hawaii and love that place dearly as well. As with Northern California, once you get of the beaten track, you can find "spectacular" just about anywhere!

Hey thats the mountian side that Captive Kirk was climping in Star Trek V the Final Frontier.
And if you are feeling "Froggy", you can take a climb yourself, although there are a few ways to get up there. You can actually walk up to the top, though the last 1/2 mile can be a challenge. The hike in averages about 8 miles and the total climb changes your altitude over 5,000 feet to around 8200 at the summit. Been there, it is awesome, but unless someone does a photoshop, no Fiero will make it close. Now Pikes Peak on the other hand....
